I know F&B has been done to death but bear with - a true dark navy

We have a little spare bedroom ( 3 bed house ) and Dh has just retired so "his room" - I agree with this. Bike on a stand - IKEA Hemnes bed for visitors - it works as a multipurpose room.

Can anyone tell me what they think is the truest navy blue . The room ( although small has two windows - so a lot of natural light. )

I'm not that fussed about it being F&B I just want a really proper dark navy blue without any hint of green or grey. I know it is fashionable but I don't mind about that - this is a small room so easily painted over if needs be & it will go with the blinds ( which I am not so keen to replace. ) Not been decorated for 10 years and it is slipper Satin at the moment - I think this could be my way of testing out bolder colours .

We have plimsoll from Paint &Paper Library in our kitchen, on the cabinets. I think it’s true Navy, and we tried a lot.

Fifiellz · 02/04/2023 20:36

We did my daughters in Dulux Sapphire Salute and it's a gorgeous deep navy blue.

HeadacheEarthquake · 02/04/2023 20:37

Another vote here for sapphire salute
It's actually a little richer than navy but it's a lovely colour on the wall and everyone comments. Not bored of it after 3 years!

Aturnipforthebooks · 02/04/2023 20:45

Hague Blue is a very dark Navy.

BasiliskStare · 02/04/2023 23:13

Thank you all - I will be investigating those

Much appreciated - thank you all for answering.

I love little green's Royal Navy.

Snowontheblow · 02/04/2023 23:18

I have used Dunelm's Folkestone Blue which is a nice dark blue, but they also have one called Luxe Navy which is darker. I found it to be nice, thick paint.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 02/04/2023 23:22

I’ve got F&B Stiffkey, which is a true navy in the room I have it in.

CrispAppleStrudels · 02/04/2023 23:33

We've just done our bathroom in navy and none of the F&B blues worked for us. Stiffkey was more blue than navy and Hague had a teal tint. We went with Little Greene Hicks Blue and it looks great!

Notamum12345577 · 02/04/2023 23:35

I read F&B as FWB, so post a little tamer than I was expecting 🤣

NameChangingIsMySuperPower · 02/04/2023 23:37

Not stiff key! But it might be dependent on the room you have it in.

Hague blue is very navy in my front room, even with the sun shining.

Luckingfovely · 02/04/2023 23:40

Hague Blue is divine but has a strong teal tint in our house - we have a lot of it - so I definitely wouldn't call it a true navy, or at least, only in certain lights.

Like most F&B paints, it changes a lot with the ambient light, so can be a totally different colour in morning daylight to evening electric lights. If that's not what you want, I would look at other ranges.

Here’s the plimsoll on my cabinets.

Sapphire Salute sounds perfect, I love it. The plimsol above is a lot greyer.

Here's Sapphire Salute in dc's bedroom.

I do like the plimsoll though as a colour!

AndiOliversFan · 03/04/2023 10:57

I’d say from your picture @Choconut that the sapphire salute is tending more towards a Royal Blue than a navy. The picture I posted is, of course, affected by the light in the room, but I honestly can’t see any grey in it at all.

As you know OP, all you can do is try testers. At least the recommendations will narrow it down a bit so you know you’re not wasting money on a tester that has green undertones and that you will know is not what you are looking from the second you apply it. That’s always so frustrating! I gave away all my blue testers on Facebook Marketplace to a local person also seeking the perfect blue!

Dulux Breton Blue or Little Green Deep Space Blue.

Curtainpoles · 03/04/2023 13:18

We have Dulux Heritage Oxford Blue in our living room and it is a very deep navy, almost bordering on purple tones but not quite. I love it, it has a very velvety deep look on the wall.
We have F&B Stiffkey blue in our upstairs study and it's much lighter, I wouldn't describe it as navy really but I know it looks very different in different lights!

F&B railings is true navy to my mind, the colours above are more French navy

This is where perception and description of colour is so variable! I would describe Railings as black in many settings, with blue undertones only in some lights.

BasiliskStare · 03/04/2023 14:24

@Notamum12345577 Ha ha - owing to my advanced age I am tragically more interested in paint colours than FWB - I am sorry to disappoint you - but you made me rather chortle - thank you

Thank you all. Interesting to see that some have a teal tint - this ( personally ) is what I do not want - I want a proper dark navy.

I have not had time to look at all but from a quick skim three are so many to look at and as @AndiOliversFan says all I can do now is to get tester pots.

So @FTM2022SS Valspar Monsoon night would look light to me but it looks like what I am looking for on the picture of the wall you posted . & to @Choconut from your photo that looks like what I aiming for and @AndiOliversFan that plimsoll looks like the ticket from the photo.

But thank you one and all for helping me get a short list - I very very much appreciate it. I am going to read through again and make a list for testers. I know that you can't really decide before you put a bit up on the wall and see how it works with the light you have in the room but it has been so helpful to hear people's views so if I have not mentioned you by name - I am grateful nonetheless

Very much thank you all

basilisk x

Ha ha yes, FWB Stiffy is a completely different kettle of fish to F&B Stiffkey Grin
