Front door colour - please choose for me!!

I know it's that sludgy, muddy, dull time of the year but I need to do something to improve the front of the house. We currently have a sort of sage green which is looking a bit tired. There is also a store cupboard right next to the front door which we should paint the same colour too.

I like the idea of pink to lift the look of the house, but I'm also wary that it make clash with the orangey bricks. I also like the idea of heritage F&B looking colours.

Does anyone have any colour tips? I'm probably going to repaint the front picket fence urban slate (dark grey) and leave the side fence wood.

The colours I'm toying with are:

Bouquet
Petal (lavender colour)
Sweet grape (light purple)
Lulworth blue/ Parma grey
Nancy's blushes or Cinder rose (pink)

I will be forever grateful as I've been putting this off for 2 years due to indecision!

I like the teal green at the bottom left of the selection you've circled on the second colour card.

Puppy45 · 07/03/2023 16:29

Couldn't fit all the colours in the first message, sorry!

Petal looks lovely.

Puppy45 · 07/03/2023 16:31

Thanks HairDo. Teal is nice too. And will hide all the mud splashed better than a paler colour.

Which way does the light come? North will make it look blue/grey and south will yellow the colour. Only a smidge but I’d bear it in mind.

GlassBunion · 07/03/2023 16:34

There's a teal-ish colour called 'harbour' on your paint card that I really like.

I probably wouldn't paint the picket fence grey and then leave your fence as it is... you'll then have three colours which might jar a bit. I'd probably just spruce them up a bit .

Puppy45 · 07/03/2023 16:35

@Onekidnoclue it faces East so gets the sunrise, but dark by the afternoon.

I've recently had a new front door and gone with a blue to match the colour I painted new picket fence last year and I'm really pleased with the overall look.

Really like lots of your colours, the lavender, teal, pink.
Too much choice!

Yellow!

(sorry, not helpful, but I have always desperately wanted a yellow door and my pal's just done hers - it looks brilliant!)

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/03/2023 16:39

I like Danube, or most of the blue colours would be fine. I would steer away from pink and lilac colours myself.

OhBuggerandArse · 07/03/2023 16:40

With more or less your colour of brick:

Thanks @GlassBunion yes the teal 'harbour' is nice but I thought that might look too seasidey. But it would be fun! I agree with you on the 3 colours going on...so I think I painting the store cupboard the same colour as front door will help. Oooh, the picket fence...I'm scared to do anything! I went for urban slate grey to go with neighbours and to make it 'disappear' but I guess it could be a feature!!

@Chasingsquirrels the picket fence and front door work really well here. A smart look. Thanks for the pic!

@OhBuggerandArse yes I love yellow too, but didn't think it would look right on not a Period house. I could be brave though! Double yellow with the cupboard next to the door, could do but I'm not too sure.

I have reddish-yellow stone and a blue door, I love the contrast and it's v cheerful. Mine is quite like the Danube colour, people often say how nice it is.

CallieQ · 07/03/2023 16:46

Parma Gray

Puppy45 · 07/03/2023 16:51

Loving for all your ideas.

Does everyone agree they I should paint the picket fence the same colour as the front door? And the store cupboard by the front door?

My logic the first time round was that by painting the front door a different colour, it would make it stand out from the utility cupboard and surroundings.

Now I'm thinking Parma Grey, Lunar Blue or Lulworth Blue.

Playing it too safe?

The first colour that came to mind was some kind of purple (F&B brinjal?) but that sounds quite different from what you had in mind!

Also not on your list, but how about F&B Stone Blue? It’s lively, but not TOO lively if you know what I mean 🤔

Puppy45 · 07/03/2023 17:13

@PureGrit like both of these colours! Brinjal is a lovely aubergine colour. And that might quell my desire for purple! Hmmm, I could paint the picket fence this colour too...

Also love the Stone Blue. It's a softer teal to the Danube or Harbour...

Yellow or the bombshell pink.

That colour is lovely.

Timide · 07/03/2023 17:56

Mulberry. Bright and thick. It will stand out in the sun too

Crucible · 07/03/2023 18:06

Going against the grain I think it'd look great in pure brilliant white - hard to keep clean though. All trim and fences white too and then a load of riotous coloured plants in front garden and in lots of pots.
