What colour would you paint this cupboard?

I bought this cupboard on Fbk Marketplace last year with the intention of painting it but haven’t got round to it yet. I’m still undecided on what colour to paint it. I could paint it the same dark blue as the kitchen cupboards but I might not be able to get an exact match and it might be better in a contrasting colour. Would light blue look better or another colour from the curtains?

Mustard definitely, you need to tie in the combined room and to bring another colour in on a big item would be too much I think as you've got it lovely

I just did a similar thing, and I got paint matched to my kitchen units. It looks ruddy fabulous and like it belongs in there!

BaronessBomburst · 05/02/2023 10:42

I'd match it to the sofa.

abbey44 · 05/02/2023 10:56

Mustard would look fabulous - Frenchic do a colour in the Lazy range called Hot as Mustard which looks like it’d be almost a match for your sofa. Lovely paint to use, very easy.

I absolve love love the colour scheme. Right up my street, looks lovely. I don't know about cupboard though, I think I would go with an.off white or cream personally, or even a tone of blue

Rainbowshit · 05/02/2023 11:00

Mustard would look amazing.

bussteward · 05/02/2023 11:01

I wouldn’t do mustard or blue as you’ve only really got those colours in the scheme – I think you need a “disrupter” colour (as Mad About the House calls it) – maybe orange which would pick up the vase colour and the raised bed outside the patio door, and sort of tie in with the bright pink splotches on the curtains. Something like F&B Charlotte’s Locks?

PurplePansy05 · 05/02/2023 11:03

Rust orange, like the vase.

Clarabellawilliamson · 05/02/2023 11:04

My eye was immediately drawn to the orange planter outside too..... I think either get it matched to the cabinets or go wild!

PurplePansy05 · 05/02/2023 11:04

And change light fittings to rust orange too.

TattiePants · 05/02/2023 11:07

@bussteward good spot on the outside planters. They are indeed Charlotte’s Locks and the cupboard was going to be the same colour (and to tie in with the vase). I then found the curtain fabric so abandoned the idea of orange.

The sofas are a mossy green rather than mustard if that makes a difference.

Mustard yes

bussteward · 05/02/2023 11:09

Ha, I feel like a creeper spying through your doors but ALSO like a paint colour superhero spy!

Perhaps my mustard is off, or my screen calibration, though, re the sofas!

They don’t look quite so tidy now but that was when they were first planted.

I agree with a 'disrupter' colour, why not Charlotte's locks? Or pink! I am waiting for an opportunity to use raddichio in our dining room which is the same colour(ish) as your kitchen!

ttacticall · 05/02/2023 11:16

I'd go with the same blue as the cupboards.

I love your curtains, do you remember which fabric they are made from?

Keepyourmummysboys · 05/02/2023 11:19

I think it needs to be olive green or blue. A third colour in such a small room will be messy and disjointed.

and mustard is horrible .

Keepyourmummysboys · 05/02/2023 11:21

Sorry I think some folks are seeing rhe sofas as mustard. I see the sofas as olive green.,

redbigbananafeet · 05/02/2023 11:22

I agree - n it the same colour as the sofas, that's too matchy matchy for an otherwise very interesting room

TheWy · 05/02/2023 11:23

Not yellow. All I can see is IKEA

poobaloo · 05/02/2023 11:24

You've got some lovely pinks / purples in your curtains so I'm going to suggest one of those shades. Matching with the sofas is an error imho. Matching the kitchen cupboards would be fine though for a more subtle look.

ChilliBandit · 05/02/2023 11:24

Going against the grain (ha) I would sand it back and lightly wax it, get some natural wood in there.

SwedishEdith · 05/02/2023 11:27

Not blue, would be too much. There's some sort of orange/red in the blinds so maybe that?

Purchase an art card colour wheel so you can see the complimentary colours.
( Pretty cheap from £4 to & £8 +).
It could potentially give you choices you haven’t yet considered.

BananaCocktails · 05/02/2023 11:33

Please don’t paint that mustard because it is a large cupboard it will look like an eyesore
You’re so far is a light pastel yellow colour not mustard so I do not see how mustard would match which is quite a strong colour, especially if using paint
I will take the colour as it is, as it already similar to the kitchen table or sand it down, so it matches the colour of your kitchen table
or if you must paint it, I will keep it neutral so he doesn’t overpower the whole room and paint it. A very light washed yellow colour like you’re so far I’ll keep it neutral such as white
don’t paint everything you need some accent colour
