What colour would you paint this cupboard?

I bought this cupboard on Fbk Marketplace last year with the intention of painting it but haven’t got round to it yet. I’m still undecided on what colour to paint it. I could paint it the same dark blue as the kitchen cupboards but I might not be able to get an exact match and it might be better in a contrasting colour. Would light blue look better or another colour from the curtains?

Spelling mistakes are terrible, sorry , autocorrect
maybe paint it to match the colour of the sofa which is like a light yellow

asparalite · 05/02/2023 11:47

If it were me I'd go for a pale colour to pick out a shade from the curtains, like a subtle bluey turquoise.

GMOOH2023 · 05/02/2023 11:58

Same green as the sofas (which are not yellow by any stretch of the imagination)

Crispynoodle · 05/02/2023 12:16

Dare I say no paint

GetupSeanItsDoleDay · 05/02/2023 12:32

You've a beautiful room and garden. Would you consider sanding the unit and staining it to match your table?

TattiePants · 05/02/2023 12:32

@ttacticall the curtains were ready made from Bluebell Grey then I bought the fabric for the blind.

This is a close up of the fabric for the colours that are in it. The cupboard’s definitely getting painted as I don’t like the colour or the inlay pattern of the wood.

Pink or orange.

LibertyLily · 05/02/2023 12:46

Orange (Charlotte's Locks like your lovely planters!) or a pink picked from the curtain fabric.

Can you add a colour wash to make the unit match the wood table?

Natural wood is making a comeback and may be hard to rescue if you cover the grain with a block colour. There's some nice detailing on the front that would be a shame to cover.

As flat paint hits saturation, it'll go the same way as the turquoise distressed painting effect that was popular a decade ago. It depends on how long you're planning on keeping the unit I suppose. Nothing stays in fashion long unless it's truly classic.

Gatekeeper · 05/02/2023 13:04

I wouldn't paint all of it- shame to cover up the outside. What I would do is paint the inside the same colour (or thereabouts- as the kitchen ones and also change the handles to white & blue ceramic ones like these

DragonsFurry · 05/02/2023 20:48

I wouldn’t paint it at all, you have enough colour already but would put green trailing plants on top to tie in with the sofa.

KirstenBlest · 06/02/2023 15:08

I wouldn't paint it

BigGreen · 06/02/2023 15:10

Just love your navy kitchen units ❤️

AlwaysLatte · 06/02/2023 15:14

I'd paint it the colour of the kitchen units but paint the wall behind it mustard, or put some mustard coloured plates etc on it.

tootiredtobother · 06/02/2023 15:15

match to sofa

Geneticsbunny · 06/02/2023 15:18

Go for a yellowy green. Similar to the sofas but not the same.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/02/2023 15:26

OP, your kitchen / diner & garden are gorgeous. I want to live in your house!

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 06/02/2023 15:26

I'd paint it the same colour as the wall, but match the inside to the sofa... which I see as green not mustard?!

TattiePants · 06/02/2023 15:57

Aw thank you @BigGreen. The kitchen was originally cream and wood but it's nearly 15 years old so we had it resprayed and changed the handles a couple of years ago and it's given it a completely different feel.

@EarringsandLipstick you might feel differently if you lived here. Big rooms and high ceilings mean it's bloody freezing at the minute!

I'm still undecided about the colour!

The sofas are a mossy green. There's a yellow undertone to them but definitely green.

Hmm I was going to say red, a rusty red like Bronze Red by Little Greene but having seen your curtains that won’t work.

How about a rich olive green? Not trying to match the sofas but more like one of the deeper greens in the curtains.

You could do the inside blue to match the kitchen, will tie it in without being matchy matchy

minipie · 06/02/2023 16:16

Or, less brave option, paint it off white to match the walls and use a bold colour inside. I think this may feel more spacious than a strong colour.

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 05/03/2023 14:10

What did you decide on? I'd go for olive or a sage green - if it's not too late!

coronafiona · 05/03/2023 14:23

Fuchsia pink or emarald green?
