Help me choose wall paint!!

Moved into our new house almost a week ago and been overwhelmed by everything.
Yesterday I placed my order for this beautiful Wilton carpet and then I went to dunelm and bought these luxurious velvet curtains.
I just need your advice on what colour should I paint on my walls.
Its already painted white and has grey carpets. However that's not my style. I prefer warm colours and prints. I don't like the crisp clean look. I'm more traditional and cosy.

I posted on your last thread and it was zapped. What happened? I still think you need warm colours for your walls.

FlamingBells · 09/11/2022 05:13

I'd pick out the maroon from your carpet or an antique gold paint.

Naz2009 · 09/11/2022 05:15

@ApolloandDaphne Thank you for posting, one of the images I put up had my address showing. I had to ask mumsnet to delete the image. As they can't delete images on threads. They deleted the entire post so I could repost.

@FlamingBells I almost got maroon curtains. As I was thinking mocha walls. But then thought with a busy carpet I'll stick to neutral curtain.

As flaming belles recommended, but maybe just on one (feature) wall to start with? Paint the other walls in a deep cream which will enhance the background of the carpet but not be as stark as white.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/11/2022 05:24

Is it in your sitting room? Maybe use maroon for cushions and other accents and a pale greenish gold on the walls? I would pick out the leaf colour for the paint.

Naz2009 · 09/11/2022 07:25

@ApolloandDaphne yes it's for the lounge.
I didn't think of cushions. I still need to get a sofa.
What's best a corner sofa or a three seater and a 2 seater.
We used to have a corer recliner in our old place. It was almost 11 years old. I gave it to charity just before we left.
I'm thinking of getting cream or beige sofa

Could you use the curtains in a different room? They’re quite a cool colour, and the carpet looks warm.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/11/2022 10:02

I would get a deep coloured sofa not cream or beige.

VeganGordie · 09/11/2022 10:10

i think you need a deep purple or red to bring out the colours from the curtains. i recently did a feature wall in our lounge with don burgundy no.86 from victory colours. its gorgeous and definitely makes a room cosy like you have mentioned :)

@VeganGordie I love that colour. It would look so good against the carpet.

I went sofa shopping today and after so many different shops. This was the sofa I liked
I think the exact same colour as in pic.
But it's £4000 I could scrap the recliners and it will be £3000 but tbh I was thinking to only spend £2k on a sofa.
Would you buy this sofa. Do you think it will look nice.

I'm not sure. I had one like this in cream leather 18 years ago, so it's a bit dated. More delicate sofas are more popular at the moment, but if you love it, buy it.

Naz2009 · 09/11/2022 15:32

@Proamble I could return them. They where £95. Maybe if I go back look for a different shade and not velvet. I'll get cheaper cones.

@Novemberhater sofoligy had beautiful sofas such fancy designs and not bulky etc. Most sofas I saw and liked today where low. I can't sit on a low sofa. I've had a c section 10 months ago. When I sit on low sofa. It causes me pain.

If you like traditional and cosy as you say, I don’t think that sofa fits your brief at all, it’s modern but manages to look very dated at the same time and leather does not equal cosy unless layered with beautiful cushions and a throw over the arm to offset it’s literal coldness. You need something in a more classic design.

Sofology have poor reviews and there have been threads about their sofas on here, so be very wary. I looked at theirs, but was warned off and ended up buying mine from a family business locally rather than a large chain.

Chesterdrawsseriously · 09/11/2022 15:49

I think your taste is a,little dated if I’m honest I mean that politely. . I was surprised when you said you had a c section recently as I’d have judged you to be elderly, with the patterned carpet and ubiquitous shiny brown leather sofa.

for me, I’d go for a neutral self coloured carpet, the curtains are fine and If you really want leather ( I prefer a scotch guarded fabric) then I’d go for a more natural hide , something more like the below image, which is much more tasteful.

id then do the room in the colour of your choice, personally I like greens and they are also very current, something like F&b French Grey all over or f&b pigeon.

Op have you spoken to your doctor about your c section pain`? It should not be still hurting like that.

Naz2009 · 09/11/2022 16:21

@Chesterdrawsseriously oooohhhhh I am in love with the sofas in the images you have uploaded. Where can I find these sofas.??
Hahahaha Honestly my mum loathed at my Wilton carpet. When I showed her a photo of what ordered. 🤣
I can't help myself. I like the old dated look
I have not ordered that sofa yet. As I wasn't 100% sure on it. I'm expecting a call at 5 from the salesman so I can place my order and pay the deposit. But I will say No!

I'm with @Chesterdrawsseriously - I assumed you were older from your choices as they are very much the type of thing (although not the sofa) my parents would have chosen. Sorry, I don't mean to be rude 💐

If you really love that style of carpet, I'd try to go more current with a sofa choice - like the kind of thing posted by @Chesterdrawsseriously above especially the one in the first pic which looks more natural than your choice.

Personally, I prefer fabric sofas these days (we had a leather contemporary chesterfield years ago and it was always cold/cushions slipped about on it) and would choose something cosy but current in a jewel colour. Then I would add lots of bohemian cushions...but that's just me 🙄

I also agree that the velvet curtains are too cold colour-wise in relation to the carpet and would return those. I'd get curtains with more warmth and possibly a pattern - although when mixing patterns they should not all be the same scale/type so avoid anything too similar to the carpet.

I wouldn't pick a cream for the walls but would try to mix things up a little by bringing in another colour, possibly a green if you're brave enough but otherwise a deep red. You can then add further interest with lots of art and accessories chosen because you love them.

Chesterdrawsseriously · 09/11/2022 16:43

It’s just from furniture world, that one is way out of budget and I’m not sure you’d wish it that big

www.furnitureworld.co.uk/alexander-james-tod-large-3-piece-l-shape-corner-sofa/p6700

but you can get cheaper versions.

dfs also has quite a few at good prices , their website is being glitchy . Just look for natural hide sofas.

sorry yes the other two photos were just for wall, colour not rhe sofa.

if also go jewel like if I was buying again now, something in a deep olive green velvety type material for me.
