What's this gap in my kitchen for?

stabilitymyarse · 23/10/2022 14:35

Just moved and the kitchen has a big space but no cupboards and I can't work out what to do with it. It doesn't look an efficient use of space for pans and I don't have that many anyway! Maybe I should buy some cupboard doors for it??

Plates

Plump82 · 23/10/2022 14:36

A place for their dog to sleep!

Countmeout · 23/10/2022 14:36

Surely it’s for a dog bed 😁

FivePotatoesHigh · 23/10/2022 14:37

I was going to say plates, but actually I think it’s a hidey space for a cat

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/10/2022 14:37

I was thinking dog bed or maybe for vegetable racks.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 23/10/2022 14:37

Could you put a large wicker basket there for storage?

BIWI · 23/10/2022 14:38

What was there when you viewed the property?

Is the property still up on the estate agent's website, with photos, so you could check?

Somanysocks · 23/10/2022 14:41

Space for your dog

bloodyeverlastinghell · 23/10/2022 14:42

Dog bed put tiered wicker baskets in if you don’t have a dog.

RustyBear · 23/10/2022 14:43

DD's new house has a space like that, she's put a double rubbish and recycling bin in there.

Somanysocks · 23/10/2022 14:43

What's going on with the right hand drawer above the space Op?

viques · 23/10/2022 14:45

Wine rack.

DeeofDenmark · 23/10/2022 14:50

I would use if for bins and recycling but agree it was probably meant for a dog.

Begoniasforever · 23/10/2022 14:57

I’d ask rhe sellers or landlord, I doubt it’s for a dog.

Stressybetty · 23/10/2022 15:02

Think Stacey Solomon has spaces like that in her utility room. She's got dog beds in I think? I'd get a few storage boxes stacked in there or use it for a bin

stabilitymyarse · 23/10/2022 15:03

Loving the idea of a dog bed! But unfortunately we don't have one Grin. It was empty when we saw it so I have no idea what was there before. We need a new bin so that's a good thought and I like the wicker basket idea. Maybe I could put a shelf across the middle of half and have wicker baskets and bin on the other side....

Yes the drawer needs some attention as it's a bit damaged unfortunately....

Appliances like bread maker, pressure cooker, etc or a wine rack?

userxx · 23/10/2022 15:08

viques · 23/10/2022 14:45

Wine rack.

That's exactly what I'd use it for. Lots of lovely 🍷

And gin. Though personally I keep my gin in the fridge because I never remember to make new ice cubes.

These work brilliantly in corners like that. Mine have doors on, but still very useful. They slide across easily, so you can fill them, pull one out of the way and slide the hidden one forward.

Mine have picnic stuff/lunch boxes/water bottles, and jam jars, and baking stuff. Light, slidey, lots of capacity.

The obvious solution here is to get a dog.
