Is my TV too high?

I've never had a wall mounted tv before and it feels like I'm really having to look up to watch it!

Is my TV too high?

That tv table looks quite lowish, maybe line up the bottom of the tv with the top of the fire guard for about right height

jellly · 19/10/2022 19:44

Far too high for me but I like to have the tv at eye level.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/10/2022 19:49

I'd get a smaller fire guard , move the tv cabinet away from the door and put the tv on it .

NCAutumn · 19/10/2022 19:50

The cabinet needs to be on an angle closer to the fire so you don't clip the tv as you go through the door.

It looks ridiculous up there tbh. Sorry 😬

outtheshowernow · 19/10/2022 19:52

It doesn't look right there. Can it go above the fireplace

Anniefrenchfry · 19/10/2022 20:00

I think it might look a little better when you move the unit away and hide the wires, they are drawing rhe eye.

I’m not going to lie op, it looks wonky, did he put a spirit level along the top?

It does and we all said the same! Yep the spirit level was straight, we've worked out it's actually the coving which is wonky and makes the tv look it! I had a canvas there before and I could never work out why I couldn't get it straight and that must've been why! X

I would put it right on top of the cabinet.

Ideally the center of the tv should be slightly below eye level.

We put a big one on the floor once, it was great!

I’ve got wonky walls so I get that, it always makes my pictures look off. My husband is always shoving a spirit level on them to prove a point.😂

If the height is fine for you that's all that matters. I would however remove the TV unit and put a floating shelf up.

Floralnomad · 19/10/2022 20:28

I’d put it back on the cabinet and be careful walking past it , or get a slightly higher cabinet , I couldn’t live with it looking that wonky or being that high .

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 19/10/2022 20:34

TVs should definitely be at eye level height from where you're watching them. Anything higher and you'll have to lean your head back.

lovelilies · 19/10/2022 20:43

I like the TV so it's like talking face to face with someone when sitting on the sofa

longtompot · 19/10/2022 20:47

I would say it is far too high for comfortable viewing. The top of ours is just below where the bottom of yours is. We have ours attached to the wall on a movable arm so we can pull it out to watch or push it flush to the wall (not that we've ever done that)

goingtotown · 20/10/2022 14:34

Put it on the TV unit it'll hide the electrical sockets & cables.

MingoDringo · 20/10/2022 14:37

Yes and i would need it to look straight too.

theemmadilemma · 20/10/2022 14:45

Far to high:

Step 1

‍To find the ideal height for your TV, sit on your couch (or wherever you’ll be watching from), and measure the distance from the ground to your eyes. If there will be others that will also be watching the TV that are significantly taller/shorter than you, then you might want to use the average seated height to calculate your ideal TV height.
Step 2

‍Measure this height on the wall where your TV is going, and mark in pencil.
Step 3

You’ll want the centre of your TV to be approximately this high off the ground when mounted.

If the layout of your room means that mounting your TV at this height is not possible, you can always have your TV mounted on a tilt bracket. This will allow you to mount the TV higher, and tilt downwards to improve the viewing angle.

Is this better?

It looks at a much better height, but is it comfortable to watch?

missinghumpty · 01/11/2022 20:50

It is a lot more comfortable actually x

OP posts:
Anniefrenchfry · 01/11/2022 20:59

Way better! Except, god I hate to say it but I’d have put the shelf just above the plug points so as to hide them a little.

carefulcalculator · 01/11/2022 21:00

It is better at the shelf height but I think you need a wider shelf as it looks like it is precariously balanced, which would make me nervous!

SantaScribe · 01/11/2022 21:28

Is it balanced on that little shelf?

threegoodthings · 02/11/2022 11:33

It looks better but you need some things on the floor there to hide the sockets and the cable...a plant, decorative pouffe, basket etc

Floralnomad · 02/11/2022 13:48

I’d have put a long shelf underneath it as it still looks a bit too big and out of place to me .
