I've never had a wall mounted tv before and it feels like I'm really having to look up to watch it!

No it's not balanced on the shelf haha although it does look it! I agree I think I bigger shelf will be better I struggled to find a decent one in my price range! I know I don't know what to put there to hide the sockets.. annoying!! X

Unless you have a really tall sofa it's way too high. If you sit on your sofa your TV should be a eye height so you don't have to tilt your head.

Snoken · 02/11/2022 14:27

You also seem to have a TV cabinet which should give you an indication of where the TV should be placed.

Yes

IKEA lack shelves are great, cheap and dead easy to put up

SantaScribe · 03/11/2022 15:11

Ha, this is not going well but I'm glad it's not just balanced. If you really don't want to sit it back on the tv cabinet (IMHO the best place for it), then you need to be filling that space below with something

This look any better?

Has it got bigger ?

Sorrynotsorry2 · 21/11/2022 22:55

It should be eye level. You shouldn't have to lift your head up to watch it . It needs to be a lot lower .

Anniefrenchfry · 21/11/2022 23:22

No it doesn’t need to be lower it will look silly, you’d not need to raise your head to watch that, the issue is the thing under it now, it draws the eye, and yes the image makes it look bigger ..

you need to keep it clean a shelf lower under and nothing else,

Furries · 23/11/2022 02:34

I think it’s going to be difficult to do a self. It needs to be a long shelf to mostly “match” the size of the TV - but the cable trunking could make it awkward to fix.

Id maybe go for a low level, long, cabinet underneath? What you’ve got placed there now highlights the empty space around it.

Furries · 23/11/2022 02:39

Obviously the tv is on the wall, but something like this (depending on measurements. You could then have a few bits on top that help cover up the wall sockets

And I’d also not have a photo/print above the tv, it looks odd, especially the size of it - it just draws your eyes there as it looks out of place.

csiga · 23/11/2022 02:42

It's a lot better than at the start but the low box underneath looks a bit odd and highlights the plugs. Can you move or get something taller to have below? Sideboard or box shelves/bookcase. Something to cover at least 2/3 of the height of empty wall below.

Agree with this too. Nothing above.

misinghumpty · 24/11/2022 09:43

Thanks all. The photo is there to hide holes in the wall from having a canvas up there before haha. Although I suppose I could try to polyfiller and paint over them! The box is just my daughters toybox, I could maybe get something bigger to keep her toys in though! X

determinedtomakethiswork · 24/11/2022 09:47

Is it on the right wall? It looks like it's bang up against the door so when you're watching telly you're just looking at the door as well.

KeepYaHeadUp · 25/11/2022 07:04

You want the TV as low as possible in a living room to create a cosy, huddled feeling. It brings everything down to sofa-sitting level. Really, as people have said, the height it would be on the TV stand you had first. Can it not be moved lower?
