Can you tell me if this would be OK in a whole room?

It looks very busy, so whether you like it will depend on whether you prefer maximalist or minimalist style.

any chance of a close up of the pattern?

cbatopainttheshed · 28/08/2022 09:19

You need a lot of strong block colour to fade it to the background. Eg. Dark fireplace, bold plain dark or bright colour curtains and sofa. Dark wood furniture.
In the photo with the white wood work and pale furniture it would make to room fern busy and untidy.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/08/2022 09:32

Don't like that at all. Surely there are nicer choices out there.

lechatnoir · 28/08/2022 10:01

Not my thing op but if you like it go for it. I am curious about your TV -it's so high up ! At the very least I'd drop it in line with the picture rail....

NotDonna · 29/08/2022 22:59

I’m not keen on the wallpaper sorry. But if you like it then of course you can do the whole room. I’m more perplexed by the rail position as it’s too high for a dado rail and too low for a picture rail. That’s why the TV position is high. I’m afraid I’d have to start afresh with a rail at proper picture rail height or not at all.
Sorry that’s not very helpful

KnickerlessParsons · 29/08/2022 23:01

I'd say the room could do with a bit of coving, and less of that wallpaper.

Surtsey · 29/08/2022 23:03

The rail looks as though it has been fixed at the same height as the mantelpiece so that's probably why it is where it is.

Not keen on the pattern, sorry.

liveforsummer · 30/08/2022 07:22

Way too much for a whole room imo, although I don't like it at all so that doesn't help my opinion. Still even for nice paper something that busy isn't ideal for every wall

Gem8701 · 30/08/2022 08:53

The dado is that height because of our mantel piece, I do like the paper but I do think its more of a feature wall so going to look at creams and ivorys for the rest of the room.

A bit too busy for me - but then I'm not fan of patterned wallpaper anyway...

Louise0701 · 30/08/2022 09:07

Can you not loose the dado rail? I’m not a fan of these faux concrete effect wallpapers so would just keep it to one wall.

is the tv just placed there randomly on that wall or is something going below it?

Snoken · 30/08/2022 09:33

I agree that the TV is way to high up, the rail way too low, the wallpaper OK but not great. Maybe if you have just white walls from under where the rail is and wallpaper above, or white panelling if your house is of the right period. Something like in the picture attached.

You also need coving, and the mdf unit in the corner does not work with that room. Should be a white unit if anything. Preferably a built in unit with shelves.

LionessesRules · 30/08/2022 09:37

I was wondering the opposite to Snoken. What if you leave the wallpaper under the rail, and have a plain, neutral, paint above the rail?

SpacePotato · 30/08/2022 09:38

The dado is that height because of our mantel piece

But why did you need to put it at the same height as the mantle. It looks odd.
Our fireplace is high and the dado sits about 1.5ft under it, where it's meant to be.

The wallpaper is bland. Just beige.
Could you just put it above the rail and do something else below it?

Gem8701 · 30/08/2022 10:25

@Snoken would you do that all the way round?

OP posts:
Gem8701 · 30/08/2022 10:25

Were not messing with the dado, it was like that when we moved in and its just a pain in arse to move it at this point😖

Yes, all the way around. Avoid feature walls if possible.

Gem8701 · 30/08/2022 11:37

@Snoken Why avoid?

There's a good Welsh word for that paper: "doith". It's not a compliment.

Prettypussy · 30/08/2022 22:44

What do you mean by Ok for a whole room- it looks like the whole room is already papered in it? Do you think it looks ok?

Davros · 30/08/2022 22:51

Dado rails aren't usually the same height as the mantelpiece afaik

That's not a Welsh word. It might be wenglish or local dialect. What does it mean?

Knittedfairies · 30/08/2022 23:11

I think it's a bit much for a whole room. The rail is the issue; too low to be a picture rail and too high to be a dado rail, which are usually positioned at chair back height to protect the wall.

Gem8701 · 31/08/2022 07:59

Ladies please can we not be nasty, I get that the paper might not be your choices but really there's no need to be nasty about it it.

Thank you for all the constructive ideas
We're e keeping the dado and gonna split and have a plain paper on the bottom.
