Are oversized duvets a thing?

Looking at lovely duvet sets on line - lots of pictures seem to show king size duvet set on double bed - looks generous - do people do this in real life?

Yep. Always go a size larger. Makes a massive difference

Definitely. Done this for years!

TigerLilyTail · 06/06/2022 13:59

We do 2 single duvets on a double.

Of course they do. A double duvet on a double bed is far too small. We've had a king size duvet on a double bed for decades now.

Jellybean23 · 06/06/2022 14:02

It depends how big you are. A larger body needs a bigger duvet.

Kimmy567 · 06/06/2022 14:03

Thank you! Xx

Yes, I always size up.

Lavapalaver · 06/06/2022 14:14

The best is TWO duvets both as big as possible

HappyAsASandboy · 06/06/2022 14:16

Yes, I size up for the duvet on all sizes of bed except single beds, where a double is far too big (for my preference).

cherrymax · 06/06/2022 14:18

We've gone superking duvet. Best decision ever!

Dammitthisisshit · 06/06/2022 14:18

yes. Always 1 size up, apart from on a single bed

Kimmy567 · 06/06/2022 23:14

Thanks everyone xx

I was taught to always do this. So much warmer and avoids arguments!

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 06/06/2022 23:17

Yeah I've always done this. Double duvet on singles, king on doubles etc. Honestly op it's so lovely to have extra duvet and they sit better on the bed once it's made. not that I make my bed often

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 06/06/2022 23:48

I do it in the winter. In hotter weather I have the same size duvet as my bed. But when it is cold I like to be able to wrap myself up more without the danger of bits being uncovered.

MintyMoocow · 06/06/2022 23:53

I wouldn’t go too big, they’re heavy and can end up sliding into the floor.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 06/06/2022 23:56

I've always had a king size quilt on my double bed. I'm single, no one to argue with about who has the quilt... and it's still just the right size 🤣

GCAcademic · 06/06/2022 23:56

Why did no one ever tell me about this?

Nanalisa60 · 06/06/2022 23:57

Yep got a kings size bed, superking bedding

MarmiteCoriander · 07/06/2022 00:03

I thought the thread was going to be about using a larger sized duvet cover on a smaller duvet. No idea why though!

Yes, I do this. Depending on the season, we either have 2 duvets on the 1 bed with different togs. DH gets far too hot and sweats whereas I feel the cold. Or, other times of the year, a larger duvet and cover. I thought it was the norm to have a larger duvet and cover to actually hang over the bed nicely, but also prevent one person being cold if the other rolls over and takes the duvet with them?

Jux · 07/06/2022 01:21

Have a single bed, double duvet. Recipe for happiness in my book! Cat likes it too 😉

ouch321 · 07/06/2022 02:17

It covers under bed storage

rocksonrocks · 07/06/2022 02:38

Yes! Although we recently splurged on a super king so are surviving (barely) on the right sized duvet. Having surplus duvet is the best!

Marchitectmummy · 07/06/2022 02:39

Yep I can't imagine a double on a double now. All of our beds have a larger duvet. It looks much nicer and stips any drafts or duvet hogging!

12weekstoloseweight · 07/06/2022 02:39

Definitely a thing! Try it and you won’t go back.
