I’ve got my own reading room

We’ve moved DS from the small bedroom to the big one, so I now have my own reading room 😁

It’s the size of 2 double beds.

So far I have in it:
a cosy chair
a footstool
standing lamp
small table
bookcases

One wall has some drawers with bed linen in (unavoidable).

What else should I add to make to make the most of my lovely room?

I have my own reading room too. I love it.

I have a lovely wicker hamper which has lots of soft blankets in if for when I want to wrap up.

You'll also need scented candles to add to the cozy.

And a nice reed diffuser to keep it smelling permanently lovely.

How are you doing for houseplants? You'll need an aloe vera to purify the air. Then you'll need a few beautiful plants, and maybe a couple of downright weird-looking ones.

How about an antique map? Or a beautiful piece of art on the wall?

Maybe a gilded mirror to make the space look/feel bigger and also to add opulence?

A mini fridge so you don't have to go out of your safe place!😊

grapewines · 17/05/2022 16:52

That's so great! Agree blankets must be had. Enjoy it.

Lovely! Plants, scented candles, blanket basket, heated blanket depending on how warm your home is, a little retro DAB radio? a secret stash of gin

Passmealargewine · 17/05/2022 17:03

Sorry I have nothing useful to add other than I'm jealous 😂 it's my dream to have a reading room (at the moment I just have a bookshelf in my working from home office which isn't quite the same)
Definitely agree with the suggestion of lovely scented candles & cosy blankets. & don't forget a 'do not disturb' sign on the door!

ThorFull · 17/05/2022 17:06

How absolutely lovely. Nothing to add, Maybe some hanging plants? It’s my latest fad. And I’m about to hang 2 fairly old prints of maps. Not sure antiques but lovely and old. So I’d second that.

RosieRoww · 17/05/2022 17:07

Soft and warm blanket, plants or freshly cut flowers, nice smelling candle and soft fluffy rug.:)

gluenotsoup · 17/05/2022 17:08

How lovely!
A soft blanket, cushions, a cosy salt lamp- I l love the glow they give. A radio or Sonos for music, a piece or art or photos you love. A foot rest?
How much time are you spending in it?? daft question, a travel kettle or mini fridge. Slippers.
A plant. Candles or the led ones even. A posh diffuser. plus a lock for the door😳🥰

Blankets, mini fridge, rug, some fairy lights

Ooooooo zennnnn

Jealous!! Enjoy!

I LOVE how @KStockHERO uses the word need for everything!!
I agree you do NEED everything on their list 😁
May I add a good bottle of whisky on your 'need' list. Nothing better than a cosy evening with a good book, blankets and a Churchill measure of a single malt

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/05/2022 17:38

A wine fridge
A candle
A lock on the inside.

LoveSpringDaffs · 17/05/2022 17:42

The time to use it!!

I wouldn't want a lot of things people have suggested. But I would like a nice cosy blanket & pillows, and pretty fairy lights.

ShirleyJackson · 17/05/2022 17:44

I’ve got one too! It’s my absolute dream come true.

MinnieMountain · 17/05/2022 18:03

I knew I could rely on you lot 😄

Cosy blanket is a great idea. I wonder if I could find a big Indian shawl to drape around me?

It definitely needs a picture on the blank wall.

I kill house planets and I’m not bothered about scented things.

The window looks a bit stark as it has white solid shutters. I’m not sure that I want fairy lights on it. Hmm.

I used to have a spare room that I pretended was my single girl flat- no one was allowed in there. Enjoy your sanctuary. 👍

Pashazade · 17/05/2022 18:29

A deep rug, I'd go sheep skin but if that's not your thing something colourful or just ones that makes you happy. But sounds fab!

EarringsandLipstick · 17/05/2022 19:39

Photo?

(Very envious)

Somuddled · 17/05/2022 21:18

We really really need a photo.

LoveFromD · 17/05/2022 23:23

Fairy lights, blue tooth speakers,

evtheria · 17/05/2022 23:24

A massive bolt on door to keep everyone out!

So envious...

I haven't got space for a reading room however I do have my space under the stairs it is decorated with bookcase wallpaper have a bankers of lamp, small wooden shelving and large antique style world map, all I need now is a very expensive leather Chesterfield recliner which unfortunately is well out my price bracket

I have a single quilt and frequently a hot water bottle and I drag the sofa into that corner until I can get a proper chair.

When I'm in there snacks are a must usually cheese and crackers and a glass of wine or can of cider and peace and quiet

I’ve got my own reading room
