Navy or grey sofa?

Moving soon and can't decorate for a year as it's a new build. The floors will be oak. Which colour sofa navy or grey? I just can't decide. Will navy age too quickly? I can change curtains cushions etc in future but hoping to have the sofa for many years. I just can't decide!

I'd go grey, well in fact I did! I just thought I can change accent colours easier. Although saying that navy does go with most.

wineosaurus4 · 25/03/2022 19:33

We went dark grey in our new build, with navy walls (went ahead and painted but didn't wallpaper) & light oak floor! I've tried to take a picture to show you how it looks Smile

@wineosaurus4

That looks so lovely.

I went grey and forest green which I love but I have navy envy now for you walls.

I have green velvet sofa and a grey leather sofa with the opposite colour wall behind each sofa.

Oh it's gorgeous. We're your walls ok after painting?

Thank you!

@sophienelisse Green was our other possible choice which we have done in the downstairs bathroom and I love that too!

@clpsmum Yes walls are perfectly fine, so far anyway. We moved in in October and painted in November.

Ok as soon as DH gets up I will take a couple

sophienelisse · 25/03/2022 20:15

When I moved in I painted everything white. White floors, white furniture and bedding all upstairs no colour at all.

It was lovely and it was so clean looking but it was not cosy. My upstairs is still mostly white but I'm gradually including colour now.

We are doing my daughter bedroom this weekend and then the new bed comes Wednesday. It will be white furniture and flooring and walls but one colour wall. I will post a pic of that too once it's finished as I think it will look really nice.

clpsmum · 25/03/2022 20:17

@wineosaurus4 do you have the four walls navy? I think I'm going to paint now I've seen yours!!

@sophienelisse unfortunately I have three grubby kids so white not the best option for me haha. Would love to see pics when it's done though it sounds lovely

Also! This is my duvet set. I have the same pink as in this set for curtains and am now wondering if I could paint one wall emerald green and the other three very pale pink. My bedroom furniture is white what do you think?

Can I be really thick and ask why you can't decorate for a year? Grin

Lindy2 · 25/03/2022 20:23

I'd go for navy. I think grey is very overdone right now and won't be very popular in a year or so.

Navy is a more classic colour and will go very nicely with oak floors.

Youcansaythatagainandagain · 25/03/2022 20:23

I had navy before and regretted it. It seemed like a lot of navy in the room.
I’d go with dark green or grey.

No idea that's what they said when I went to view. Can't decorate or put anything on the walls like pics etc for a year. Doesn't seem to be the case according to PP though so might just paint anyway

@clpsmum Yes we painted all 4 walls. The reason they say not to decorate for a year is because it can take that long for the house to 'settle' and small cracks can appear in the walls usually around the ceiling I believe. It's not always the case though. We just couldn't live with a fully white house for so long, it felt very clinical! We have painted most rooms now or at least one wall including panelling in our bedroom.

Oh and I think the emerald green wall for your bedroom sounds lovely.

The black and white pic on the green wall is a wooden street carving of where I am from. I love it. It was £125 Shock but I looove it. You can get them if most cities.

We have so many throws as my cats are terrible for jumping up and I don't want my sofa ruined they are quite new

@wineosaurus4 thank you you've inspired me to be a rebel!! I'm going to paint!! I wanted a grey sofa originally but thought it was boring but now youve inspired the navy paint I think it will look nice. I'm also going to go with green for my bedroom thank you!
