What does the "Dream House" look like for you?

I'd love a gorgeous little cottage or Georgian flat on the high street of a rural market town.

No garden as I hate the faff, but surrounded by glorious countryside with the perks of a thriving town.

What's your dream home?

I'd love a traditional looking Yorkshire farmhouse. The kind of house that looks like my 5 year old self would have drawn - red door in the middle, two windows downstairs and two windows upstairs with chimneys on either side of the roof Smile

Large field, river running along the bottom, Small cabin in the centre. Outdoor kitchen, fire pit with outdoor seating.

No garden to speak of, but room for a dog or two to run.
No neighbours, that's important. Just peace and quiet and noone around.

Art Deco type penthouse with terraces. Seaview. Lots of built in shelving and storage. Big kitchen diner tv area with separate living room. Library. Ensuite bedrooms.

SalsaLove · 24/03/2022 09:21

A New England style bungalow on the Atlantic coast. High ceilings and fans, and a porch with adirondack chairs.

DomusAurea · 02/04/2022 19:11

Townhouse in quiet street but near shops and public transport to get to town. 1950s-1960s. Not victorian would be a bonus. man, those tiny hallways.

Hbh17 · 02/04/2022 19:16

A Georgian flat would be gorgeous - structurally sound but a bit shabby chic. Proper fireplace, with a fender. Sash windows & some huge, comfy window seats. Full of books & pictures. Nothing that conforms to current trends. A few cobwebs will just make it all the more interesting!

Cotswoldmama · 02/04/2022 19:19

A Victorian house within 5 mins walk of town with a small garden.

Newuser82 · 02/04/2022 19:21

We are very fortunate to be moving into my dream house very soon! A lush barn conversion with a large atrium style room. Am so lucky. And so excited!

DaisyWaldron · 02/04/2022 19:25

An arts and crafts villa with a big garden within walking distance of the centre of a university town/city.

musicalfrog · 02/04/2022 19:28

The country cottage in The Holiday. Maybe a tad roomier but definitely with that vibe.

BoodleBug51 · 02/04/2022 19:30

A rambling and rustic barn conversion.

Without a bifold door and kitchen island in sight.

MaryFerguson · 02/04/2022 19:54

Modernist masterpiece sitting above a stream in a wooded valley in South Hams, with the sea twinkling in the distance

Qwill · 02/04/2022 20:01

A house like the Banks family in Mary Poppins. Within walking distance to Regents Park and big stone steps!

DuckaLucka · 02/04/2022 20:13

Georgian mansion!

Makinglists · 02/04/2022 20:18

Small cottage on the moors. Warm and snug. Cottage garden. Space to be on my own away from everyone.

Guineapiggiesmalls · 02/04/2022 20:24

Double fronted detached sandstone villa, with an enormous modern kitchen/living area extension at the back with bifold doors. Circular driveway too please. No spiders, despite having lots of ornate cornices and ceiling roses. Throw in a pool if you’re feeling generous, even though it’s Scotland and I’d maybe use it twice a year.

Notonthestairs · 02/04/2022 20:33

The country cottage in The Holiday. Maybe a tad roomier but definitely with that vibe.
If you have the cottage can I have Cameron Diaz's house? I like modern, big windows, cavernous kitchens and a pool.

I can't pick one. Pop

musicalfrog · 03/04/2022 08:47

It's all yours @Notonthestairs although maybe we could swap every once in a while, just for a week or so? Wink

Notonthestairs · 03/04/2022 09:08

Definitely up for a house swop. Can you throw in Jude Law and the dog too please Grin

pinkhousesarebest · 03/04/2022 09:12

It took me the best part of half a century, but I finally live in mine. An old French provencal style farmhouse in the countryside. With a pool.
I hope to be buried in the garden as I am never going to leave it alive.

vickyc90 · 03/04/2022 17:43

Grand design type new build in my wildest dreams. The realistic/achievable one is a modern build in around 3/4-1acre, large swim spa with a outdoor kitchen/bar featuring a pizza oven and BBQ. We love open plan, so kitchen with a island onto our main family space. Husband would love space for a pool table, realistically that's 10years away by which time we will have an 18 year old so seems a waste to build it for ourselves.

We've just bought what would have been described as a executive estate house that needs total renovation so it will be our realistic dream for a few years at least.

The house in Sleeping with the Enemy. On the beach and perfect
