What does the "Dream House" look like for you?

I'd love a gorgeous little cottage or Georgian flat on the high street of a rural market town.

No garden as I hate the faff, but surrounded by glorious countryside with the perks of a thriving town.

What's your dream home?

Traditional 1930s/1950s house that has been modernised but kept character features. So it would still have a fireplace in the lounge but with a more open plan kitchen/diner that opens into the garden.

Garden would be cottage style and just full of beautiful flowers in the summer.

We're lucky enough to be moving soon and the new house is very almost the dream - garden needs some work, and they've ripped out most of the character, but I'm hoping to restore it a bit. I'd also rather 2 floors, but the loft conversion is to die for so 💁

I’d quite like to live in a lighthouse, but I wouldn’t get much of a garden.

I LOVE Georgian houses. A white, double-fronted Georgian house with a decent-sized garden would be my dream.

Smallish French chateau with a lake or river for me. In the south of France, I’ll need some warmth in those big old rooms.

Georgian, decent grounds, lots of established trees. Large kitchen diner. All double bedrooms. Plenty of storage. Double drive. No garage required but a shed would be good. Set back off the road. Kitchen garden for growing veg. Maybe even a walled garden. A snug. Open fires in living rooms/snug. Extra stairs in odd places. Utility room. Simple decor and easy to clean.

A lovely old cottage with stone floor, big fireplaces and beams. Ideally with a small patio and wildflower garden. In the Yorkshire countryside but within a few miles of a village/town with shop/supermarket.

Sussex farmhouse in the High Weald decorated by Susan Deliss or Matilda Goad – think posh nonsense as seen in Homes & Gardens. Garden orchard like in Each Peach Pear Plum. No neighbours yet also easy access to a Waitrose and an indie cinema and the sea. Basically Sussex without the other people? And fancy curtains.

A luxury eco build in a stunning rural location close to beaches and mountains.

TulipsGarden · 29/04/2022 14:27

A large Victorian/Georgian redbrick house with an extended kitchen, at least four bedrooms and a long, private south-facing garden.

Preferably within 20 mins walk of Cambridge town centre, but I'd settle for one where I currently live 😁

Barbies dream house? On Amazon is a pic 😜

WoodenClock · 29/04/2022 14:29

A top spec luxury flat, smallish, but with fixtures and fittings that really make use of the space....but detached with a small courtyard garden Grin

Upmarket town or small city - eg, Lewes, Petworth, Bath. Period house or flat with balcony or roof terrace. Quiet leafy road. Views. Snug living room with Woodburner. Kitchen diner with high quality range cooker, pantry. Utility room. One bathroom with comfy large bath. Modern shower room with double shower. Not much really!

JaninaDuszejko · 12/05/2022 12:52

Only one? I reckon I need 3.

  1. Holiday home where I grew up in Scotland. Modernist detached house with views of the sea.

  2. Georgian flat with impossibly high ceilings as central as possible in Edinburgh for cultural trips.

  3. An Edwardian villa in our town, there's a street of then 10 mins walk from the town centre. They are gorgeous and never seem to come on the market.

ElleWoodsandBruiser · 12/05/2022 12:56

I'd have a huge sprawling house overlooking the sea in Cornwall with sea views from most of the windows. It would have real fires, a swimming pool, gym and a tennis court. 10 huge double bedrooms, all en-suite. I'd also need a guest annexe with 3 en-suite bedrooms and a cottage for a housekeeper and gardener.

I'd also have one of those stucco terrace houses in Regents Park in London.

2pinkginsplease · 12/05/2022 12:58

My ideal house would be a cottage in a village on the coast. With only a.few steps to take to reach the beach.

ElleWoodsandBruiser · 12/05/2022 12:59

I'd also have all the sea front houses from Big Little Lies.

Needmorelego · 12/05/2022 13:21

My biggest wish is to simply have my own personal outdoor space. I would be happy with a Victorian 2 Up 2 Down as long as it has a yard big enough for a washing line and some flower pots.
Or if in a flat - a balcony. My own personal balcony.
Thanks to lockdown I believe that all flats should legally have balconies.

The house in Sleeping with the Enemy. On the beach and perfect

Love that house but in my stories it has lifts two swimming pools one winter one summer.

SwedishEdith · 12/05/2022 18:42

Mine changes all the time but I'd be very happy with a flat with balcony overlooking the sea or an old characterful Spanish town house with a roof terrace and/or small balcony just big enough to sit on and nose at the activity down below. Or an American style house with a wooden verandah.

Thefaroeislands · 12/05/2022 18:49

Our last house. 1930s detached looking out onto fields. We gutted it. It was perfect. I sobbed when we moved out.(job transfer). Absolutely hate our new house.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 13/05/2022 16:40

A toss up between a Georgian country vicarage, and a HufHaus glass and steel thing. Either way - lots of windows, large kitchen/diner with doors out to a nice big garden. Fruit trees. Massive utility room. Big rooms and high ceilings. And a glorious coastal view.

Lampzade · 15/05/2022 20:26

Semi rural . Detached period house,( Georgian or Mock Tudor) modernised , but keeping the character features such as fireplaces.
Modern kitchen and bathroom, but traditional sitting / dining room
large garden backed by woodland,.
House would be set in about an acre

OakPine · 16/05/2022 16:15

Detached. No neighbours.

That is all.

my mental health has been destroyed by living attached to other houses.
