Anyone done this and have photos and recommendations you could share?

I'm liking examples as in the photos below (although I'd prefer it to be either tan or green sofa with grey).

No pics but A friend of mine has a pale green armchair next to a pale grey sofa, looks great especially as both sofas have peach cushions on them.

MarjoryTub · 11/02/2022 09:11

Thank you. That's definitely what I'm hoping for! I think I will definitely be adding this armchair into the mix.

Also if anyone has a Fellini or Cordelia sofa from sofology or a click clack sofa from Made.com - do you recommend?

I’ve got a dark tan leather sofa with two mismatched armchairs. I’m awaiting delivery of a new sofa - grey fabric/l-shaped/mid-century styling that will coexist with one of the armchairs in the front room, while the leather sofa and the other armchair will coexist with many toys in the back room (which is currently without seating - but with many toys 😂).

I think, generally, individual pieces of furniture look much better than a matching ‘suite’.

Although, the room covered in toys and books by a toddler look is crap whatever furniture you have.

I have mismatching everything ( including sofas).

DavetheCat2001 · 11/02/2022 10:03

@Dyrene ha yes..I am a biota a colour fan so most rooms in our house are fairly bright!

@IggyIggyIggy thank you! Ive never been a minimalist! Grin

I think that mismatched sofa are fine but you need something to link them eg a fabric that contains both those colours plus a third - see frazzled and Dave.
Having plain-colour A cushions on sofa B and plain-colour B cushions on sofa A is too obvious and doesn't work - see the blue/yellow picture in OP (which has also got the size of the cushions wrong).

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 11/02/2022 10:14

Cushions make all the difference. The white ones I have on the blue sofa are actually just inserts, waiting fir the covers uk arrive which are abstract with blue and pink tones. I also have mustard curtains and orange dining chairs in the same room! Love colour, can't wait to get the painting done in there!

I also think darker wool furniture complements mixed colours well I have a pure 70s vibe with my furniture but a mix of eras looks cool too

DavetheCat2001 · 11/02/2022 10:30

If you like jewel colour/velvet/slightly eclectic cushions, I highly recommend www.iansnow.co.uk.

Not cheap but good quality and very sumptuous.

SolasAnla · 11/02/2022 10:33

IMO Dave's works because the strong colours of the sofas are a sharp contrast to the pale walls and are reflected in the artworks. There is sharp contrast but no clash, and no need for layers either.

The yellow/grey sofa is not successfully reflected in art above it, then grey walls add the white wood the other grey for the door plus the pale wood floor. Just layers of colour which clash with nothing much to tie it all together.

The brown/grey has a number of layers of colour and shapes (including a big pattern rug on sofa matching wood) and the walls could even be painted a darker colour and still work

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock
Unsolicited opinion.
i think the very dark grey top right and lighter grey bottom left dont have enough navy blue tone for your sofa.

SolasAnla · 11/02/2022 10:38

Missing line re Dave:

Even the rug and feature wall work with the art and spine of books
^^

Thank you @SolasAnla

These are Ian Snow cushions which I think work well tying a 'mismatched' decor together

In our snug we have mismatched sofas (and plan on adding a purple chair when we've done some building work!). They are a dark green velvet antique curved sofa (eBay find 😄) and a cream linen one from Sweetpea and Willow.

Our colours/style won't be to everyone's taste as we're very eclectic and maximalist, lol!

The wallpaper is cream, olive, black, gold. Our cushions are a mix of greens, purple, black, cream etc and the rug has a few extra colours thrown in as we have accessories, art, curtains in orange, mustard etc.

The first pic is from 2020 when we had a different cream sofa. Apologies for the Christmas pic as it was the only one I had to hand (the room is currently upside down with building work - you can actually see an acrow prop in the second pic 🙄).

Thank you all so so much for replying and for posting photos too ☺️

I'm finding the whole process so difficult and feel like I am going to get to totally wrong 🙈

Can anyone recommend a couple of sofas or a sofa and chairs you'd put together? I have been really keen to stick with the tan, but my husband is less sure and I am finding myself doubting my decisions! 😆

Our noise is a 1930s house and the room is currently empty and a blank canvas.

I'm probably not the best person to ask if you are looking for 'tasteful' or neutrals as I just go for colours/ styles I love and chuck 'em together!

The purple sofa in my living room is a reupholstered 1960's Danish sofa, in a purple tweedy fabric, and the green one is a velvet Chesterfield style.

What kind of colours do you like?

Try googling. Put in "tan and grey colour schemes" and you will get some suggestions including room settings which might help your DH to visualise. example
The suggestions are tan, grey and soft blue. The colours are reminiscent of the seaside - not icecream colours but more of a winter storm rolling in off the Atlantic. It sounds dramatic but looks quite cosy and ethereal.

MarjoryTub · 12/02/2022 18:10

Thank you again!

I have found two that I like on Next website... I need to go and look at them in person.
I like the Fellini in Sofology, but not sure about the Texas Tan as it's untreated leather and my kids are messy- I don't like the other colours unfortunately.

Anyone have a Wilson sofa from Next?

I mean, it’s about 7 or 8 years old so I don’t think anyone sells it anymore. 😂 I got it from a local department store.

It’s kind of similar to this one in style and colour.
