I've got new fitted wardrobes coming tomorrow there in a cashmere deisgn and for weeks I've been trying to figure out a colour. I' think weve finally decided to for for 2 wall of magnolia and a spotty magnolia glittery wallpaper from b+q and change all our bedding g and curtains to chocolate brown

I have a vision in my head and I think it'll work best but my whole family hate magnolia and say its too boring whats your thoughts on that colour please

I’m going back to magnolia because when I’ve chosen other cream colours it’s never what you’re expecting.
At least you know what you’re getting with it.

This is the wallpaper not the clearest due to the light on it but it's cream with very little spots and glitter as we have a lovely bright room

It would be a no from me but it's your room and not mine so the choice has to be yours

We've got magnolia all through, at least anything goes with it. Farrow and Ball and suchlike give all these fancy names but they're still cream, grey etc.

pingster · 09/01/2022 21:42

I really don't like magnolia. We've just moved into a new house that was painted magnolia and have gradually been painting all the walls different colours and it's made a huge difference. The magnolia looks dirty and seems to absorb light. We've gone for farrow and ball cornforth white in the hallway which looks so much nicer than it did when it was magnolia.

Ringergodgers · 09/01/2022 21:46

I hate magnolia..its boring and cold and thats why every builder uses it. I would pick any other colour over magnolia

SeaisBlue · 09/01/2022 21:46

Definite no from me for magnolia - rather outdated

GoodnightGrandma · 09/01/2022 21:46

It’s not cold.

Thatldo · 09/01/2022 21:46

No,no,no,no,no,no to magnolia. Why do you ask,it is your place and you choose what you like.It would be the very last colour I'd choose.

ouch321 · 09/01/2022 21:49

Not really. If I wanted a non-colour colour so to speak I'd go with pure white.

heymammy · 09/01/2022 21:50

When we first moved in to current home, ex-dh insisted we paint the whole lot magnolia, it's soul destroying and looks terrible after a few years wear and tear.

SnowWhitesSM · 09/01/2022 21:51

I love magnolia and I love white. I did grey about 10 years ago and hated it.

Magnolia is warm and clean looking.

Crabapple04 · 09/01/2022 21:51

I'm sorry I couldn't live with magnolia at all. Our whole house was magnolia and even the carpets were not far off the same colour too! I'm still.in the process of getting rid of it- I love colour and all the magnolia was getting me down as it's not me.
I found it a cold colour in our bedroom so have gone with a very deep dusky pink shade, which is so much warmer and cosier combined with a sagey green for curtains, from our old bedroom.

You could try looking at a colour wheel if you're not sure which colours look good together, but magnolia - big fat no from me!

Pineapplemonkey · 09/01/2022 21:56

If you like it, then go for it. I personally am not a fan, I think it's very old fashioned, white is much brighter when you want to do neutral. My house had been magnolia'd when I bought it, I had to repaint ASAP as I thought it looked like smokers had lived here and was nicotine stained (it wasn't)

With those wardrobes you could literally have any colour you like as they're neutral- the world is your oyster!

DramaAlpaca · 09/01/2022 21:58

If you look very carefully at magnolia it's actually a very pale pinky cream colour that isn't at all unpleasant. It's got a reputation as boring because it's been used so often over the years. It dates back to when there wasn't such a variety of pale neutrals available, and became ubiquitous because the choice was between soft magnolia and stark white. Now there are many more varieties of paint in different colours, but magnolia is still around because it's so neutral.

It will go perfectly with the colour scheme you are planning, OP.

Spacerader · 09/01/2022 21:58

Magnolia would be a big no from me, its very 80s/90s looking, and magnolia can sometimes look a little dirty/stained because of its yellow undertones. If I was to go neutral it would be plain old white or an off weight Beigh. But it's your house and your decision.

ImmediatelyNo · 09/01/2022 22:03

I think magnolia will be too yellow with though doors/that wallpaper.

Kitsmummy · 09/01/2022 22:03

As you've asked, I presume you're open to hearing some negatives...

Magnolia, glitter and brown with mirrored wardrobe doors sounds like an utterly repulsive combination!!

Feelingpoorlysick · 09/01/2022 22:04

Magnolia is too yellow for my liking but it's your house not mine.

Avacadoandtoast · 09/01/2022 22:05

Really really really don’t like it - look for an off white, much nicer and fresher.

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 09/01/2022 22:07

Have you looked at Egyptian cotton- I think it's a fresher colour compared to magnolia

Ellieboolou33 · 09/01/2022 22:08

Nothing wrong with magnolia, perfect for a bedroom and the colour of your bedding wardrobes will suit perfectly. It will be warm and cosy, just how a bedroom should be.

I find grey awful, no matter what shade it is of grey, it's so boring, dated and dull.

Vicliz24 · 09/01/2022 22:08

With those colours I'd go with a soft blue to contrast and blue in a bedroom is calming
