And have shunned traditional white/cream walls in your sitting room/home - could I hear about/see pictures of your alternative paint schemes?

I have a taupe/pink in my living room

ginnig · 17/12/2021 17:38

Had it 3 years & love it, sadly I think it's now becoming a trend.

Bramshott · 17/12/2021 17:41

We have always had a deep red (think it's "picture gallery red"?) in the sitting room. I think you can get away with a dark colour in a room you mostly use in the evenings.

Tillsforthrills · 17/12/2021 17:41

I just posted a salmon-y pink on another thread

We've also got taupe but with maroon - house is Georgian so didn't want to go too modern.

Tillsforthrills · 17/12/2021 17:42

@Bramshott

I’m loving the deep reds at the moment, but also drawn to blue and green deep shades like Hague Blue

The Taupe combinations sound good, I’ll look at those thank you

We have a dark blue, it's a very light room and makes the room feel really homey.

Have a look at the crown period range of paints - I found it a really helpful starting point for the tone of colours that might work.

ginnig · 17/12/2021 17:59

But used LG hicks blue in our "office" as I prefer LG.

SophieHatterPendragon · 17/12/2021 18:00

Ours was a deep read when we got the house but after a few years I got fed up so now we have a beautiful dark rich green love it

Minibea · 17/12/2021 18:08

We have a late 30s house with high ceilings and picture rails. Our sitting room is F&B mizzle (mainly because it suits some of our older furniture which we can’t afford to replace at present) but our family/tv room/kids playroom where we spend most of the time is F&B de nimes which is a dark blue - because it is such a bright room with light furniture and white above the pic rails, the dark colour works really well. In fact we’ve just redecorated my DD’s room using cinder rose as the pale pink we chose when we first moved in seemed washed out in a bright room with light furniture.

tarheelbaby · 18/12/2021 08:40

Dining room: sky blue walls (to make up for lack of blue skies) with glossy ivory woodwork and ivory ceiling and ivory damask curtains in a toile-style chinoiserie pattern.
The sitting room is as decorated by previous owners: rich yellow walls and ceiling above the dark wood paneling and Liberty print (Ianthe in tan/blue/navy) curtains. The paneling is about 6' all around so there's only about 2' of wall. The ceiling has faux beams.
It's v. Arts & Crafts. Someone once rang the bell and asked about the curtains!

Thank you all so much for sharing your paint schemes at home, lovely to see and have inspired me to look at your options.

This photo shows the colour we went for - we liked Hague blue as well but in the end we decided against as someone else in the family had already used it (and I do now actually prefer this colour, so it worked out all right).

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule

That’s a gorgeous shade of dark blue. Not quite as dark as HB which is good!

DappledThings · 19/12/2021 15:48

Duck egg blue in the lounge, teal in the study, dark green in the library, yellow in the kitchen, bedrooms are lilac, 2 x green and royal blue/grey. Bathroom is really dark blue.

I hate white walls! I have no idea if any of the room colours go with each other, I just like what is in each room individually.

Corbally · 19/12/2021 15:53

We have mostly copies of F and B colours — Inchyra Blue, Dead Salmon, Dropcloth, Chappell Green.

Hebeee · 19/12/2021 23:02

We have F&B Olive (an archive colour) in the living room of our 400 year old mill.

Other colours we have used include F&B Inchyra Blue, F&B Oval Room Blue, LG Citrine, LG Silt and F&B Setting Plaster.

The next rooms we decorate will be in F&B Brinjal (snug) and LG Sage Green (guest bedroom). I'm also planning to use a deep black in the cloakroom 😉

We've never been fans of white walls 😎

cabbageking · 19/12/2021 23:13

1790's cottage and we have an off-white hue simply to lighten up the small rooms. Boring but also easy to touch up any damp areas when air is not circulating. Boring but appropriate to the white lime wash it should be,

Tightwad2020 · 20/12/2021 18:26

Edwardian with lots of bits and pieces (inglenook fireplace, cornices, fretwork) here. I've used LG China Clay Light on the ceiling, Atelier Ellis Stony Plaster on the walls and all the woodwork, F&B French Gray on the garden doors and main window frames. It's a light colour scheme, and fits in with the existing elements (sage green carpet, fireplace tiles, William Morris curtains). I'm happy with it as a starting point, especially using a colour on the ceiling, but I need to get some big moody abstracts up on the walls and lots of earthy neutral colours and different textures in the furnishings to make it feel more solid, contemporary and cosy. I would love to throw money at it, but since I have little to spare for the time, it's going to take me a while! I spend a lot of time on Etsy and Pinterest, sigh.
What are you thinking of for your space, OP?

whenwillthemadnessend · 20/12/2021 18:33

I love colour. Hate boring whites creams etc

We have navy and egg shell blue in the big sitting room

A combo of lemon and wedgewood blue in the kids living room

Kitchen is honey yellow and black

All my bedrooms have
Colour and bright or original wallpapers

Everyone loves it that visits.

We are doing the hall
Soon and I'm
Thinking navy
Or deep red or both

CliveAntichrist · 21/12/2021 19:56
