Diptyque Candles

Are they worth it? Do they smell better than say a Yankee candle?

They smell so, so much better. I used to work somewhere that used them and am forever spoiled for the more artificial Yankee type candle. But I still don’t buy them as I dont have that sort of budget for candles. I do have a Penhaligons one (free with birthday perfume) and that is great too.

Tibtab · 09/09/2021 20:54

I get them as a treat, the smell lasts and lasts. I used to get Yankee candles but I found them quite smoky (even with a short wick).

Alwayscheerful · 09/09/2021 22:47

Worth every penny .

PinkArt · 10/09/2021 00:29

Sooo much better. They're expensive but I'd rather have one Diptyque than 10 Yankee.
What kind of scents do you like?

Ostryga · 10/09/2021 00:33

Sadly they are worth every penny. The scent is amazing and fills the room.

Make sure you burn it properly the first time though to avoid tunnelling and ruining it! You need to trim the wick down to about a 1/4 inch, then let the candle burn until entire top layer is melted. So don’t light it if you need to go out.

mobear · 10/09/2021 00:35

Yes, they’re definitely worth it. They sometimes pop up at TK Max, it’s not a big discount but it helps.

Velveteena · 10/09/2021 00:40

For their price tag I'd have thought they'd be made from soy wax rather than paraffin. I expect cheaper candles, like the Aldi ones, to be paraffin but not one for £50.

Thanks for the tip!

I like vanillary fragrance, oceany fragrance and sort of smokey fragrance for the winter.

I'm really liking the sand & fog ones from TK Maxx. They smell great even unlit. They do a lovely ocean fragrance

revampneeded · 11/09/2021 07:21

Good advice from ostryga. If you like smoky scents then Feu de Bois is a good candidate. (I like the fig one because I like grassy greenhouse smells.)

PinkArt · 11/09/2021 11:24

I think you'll really like Vanille then. It's a deep bourbon vanilla, not a sweet one that brands like Yankee tend to go for, but if you like smokey too then it could be a winner. I'd suggest getting one of the smaller ones as the throw is great with that one and a little goes a long way. And Feu de Bois literally smells like a real fire - the smokiest of smokey smells!
Apology for the expensive habit I'm pushing! Grin

Wole · 11/09/2021 11:42

Thank you, I'm going to go for the Vanille one. It sounds like a proper grown up vanilla if that makes sense. I was going to start with a small one purely for financial reasons 🤣

If you like smoky try this
charlesfarris.com/collections/scented-candles/products/grand-cascade-candle-tin

Top end quality. Less expensive than Diptyque’s Feu de Bois but just as good

Hadjab · 12/09/2021 22:29

Diptyque candles are fantastic, as are Byredo and Boy Smells.

Davros · 12/09/2021 23:49

Feu de Bois is amazing

IReallyCantThinkOfAnything · 14/09/2021 15:03

Seven Seventeen candles smell lovely and better value, especially on offer.

Second this. They have loads of Halloween inspired scents at the moment and they smell wonderful. Not overpowering either.

My DIL was given a Jo Malone candle a while ago and I was excited to see it burning. Walked in their house and saw it burning but could barely get any scent from it. It was extremely disappointing.

juliainthedeepwater · 14/09/2021 15:46

Yes. Diptyque’s feu de bois is my favourite candle of all time.

sjxoxo · 14/09/2021 16:10

Omg i couldn’t skip this title. Comparing Diptyque and Yankee candle are like comparing Princess Diana to Kat from Eastenders 🤣 there is zero comparison. Diptyque are on of the the best in the world. If it’s your first candle, go for Baies. It’s a classic. Perfect for Autumn too. Their customer service, dispatch, packaging are second to none. Xo

NotMyCat · 14/09/2021 16:25

I had a diptique one and wasn't overly impressed
I prefer Albion candle (errant ember is my fave), Seven seventeen (be still) or the botanical candle company

sjxoxo · 14/09/2021 20:19

@NotMyCat what was the candie?? I’ve never had a single product from diptyque that I didn’t love. Their skincare is also heavenly x

It was the lavender one? Saying that, I also got a white company candle which wasn't cheap and wasn't impressed with that either! That one tunnelled so badly as the wick was wonky and not big enough so unusable and virtually no scent

TheWholeWorld · 14/09/2021 20:39

If you like winter smoky fragrances - white company fireside is good. I bought some of the small candles as Christmas gifts last year and really really wanted to keep that one for myself Blush

Hahaha can't wait! Going to order one after next pay day.

I got my sister a white company 4 season's set. It was gorgeous!
