soap options for small cloakroom sink - not wall mounted

Hi, I have a small rectangle cloakroom sink. It's awkward to find a soap dispenser to sit comfortably by the tap. I don't want to mount anything on the wall, has anyone come across a decent option of either a refillable dispenser or soap brand that is small enough? The available spot is about 6.5 x 7cms but can't be too tall as the room is quite narrow and folk then knock it off when passing. TIA.

I'll add a photo if I can get it to work.

Mirror on the wall with a small shelf built into it? Google that mirror with shelf bathroom and you'll find lots.

I think this might be too big but we love ours in our tiny downstairs loo: www.johnlewis.com/joseph-joseph-slim-compact-soap-dish-grey/p5291595

although we are real soap rather than dispenser users so may not suit you :-)

A travel sized bar of soap.

The Neals YRd soaps should fit as they are tall and thin. Waitrose sell them.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, not against a bar of soap but can't find anything small enough to have as a dish and don't want to just use bar straight on the sink, and yes the tall thin round dispensers do fit but because it's narrow they keep getting knocked onto the floor and broken, if I could find something shorter it would be more stable and less likely to get bumped. Mirror with shelf might have been a good option but we have already fitted a mirror.

Wall mounted would be ideal but don't want to drill into the tiles and the mirror is immediately above and also its quite high up. Tiler had to cover up end of plaster board which needed to be replaced when the old tiles came off so probably a bit higher than normal.

It really is a bit of a pain.

Thanks for all the ideas though.

Could you use a soap dish with rubber suckers? I have one which is attached to the mirror above the sink. The suckers are really strong and I remove the dish to clean, leaving the suckers in place. They can be attached onto most surfaces.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 10:26

Thanks, I hadn't thought about something with a sticky thing.

I'll see if something catches my eye, two options there, stick dish to sink or attach to mirror, tiles have a matt finish and things don't attach to it well which is why towel hook is also attached to the sink.

It looks like it has a kind of indent for the soap, I would keep it minimal have a bar of imperial leather there and change it frequently, its just as hard to clean a soap dish as the sink. (however my family have made me go back to liquid handsoap so not for everyone).

I recently bought a wall mounted simple human single soap dispenser. It comes with sticky pads and screws. So you can choose how to attach it to the wall. We used screws as we have a very boisterous 4 year old who may pull it off the wall, but the sticky pads were already on the back and you just peeled the backing off.

Tiny bar of soap ?

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 11:18

@gowalkabout It says on one that it's 20 cm by 20cm which can't be true as that is massive!

Followed a link from one though and found a smaller round one, just need to decide what I want to do now as actually have some different options!

Thanks all.

What about 3M Command hooks or strips for fixing something to the wall?

The've also got a couple of soap dishes.

Also being matt shouldn’t make a difference, just clean it properly in advance.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 11:59

It does seem to make a difference as they are matt and aren't completely smooth. we have the same ones in the other bathrooms and i can't even get a stick on to stay on just to hold a lightweight muslin cloth and the towel hook doesn't last more than a minute before dropping off. I've not tried command strips though which might be strong enough. Plenty of nice guest soaps available so a dish might be the way to go.

Command strips are brilliant!
