Bed sizes- king or super king?

We've just moved and need to buy a new bed. The bed that was in the new house previously was a king size. I've wanted to get a superking for some time but to do that will mean ripping out some of the built-in bedside tables, leaving missing sections of carpet.

I don't like the style of the built-in bedroom furniture anyway but wasn't envisioning having to replace it all so soon- there are other rooms we want to prioritise first.

We had a double in our old house- should we just get a king so we can keep the existing furniture for a while or bite the bullet and go for a super king, even though the room will look unfinished for a year or more, realistically?

superking with separate matresses and separate duvets.

we sleep so much better.

I’ve just got a super king and honestly, I cannot imagine anything nicer. It’s amazing. I would totally tolerate an unfinished looking room for a year or so for it.

BoysTownGang · 15/07/2021 20:41

I’ve treated myself to a King last autumn… ooh, it’s lovely ( the damn Ddog now gets on it as there’s room for her) Only me here so it’s lovely and roomy. The only tiny downside is I find changing the bigger duvet cover a struggle.

Super king. You'll never regret it

Katefoster · 15/07/2021 20:44

We brought a king and it's perfect. We were away last week in a super king and it's just too big I like to be able to have a cwtch!

This is an interesting take. Is it two single duvets and mattresses? How do the two duvets look in practice- is it weird to have the line down the middle of the bed when it's made in the daytime or do you use a blanket to hide the join?

We're in love with our Super King and would never go back. Most hotel rooms now seem inferior 😂

BellsaRinging · 15/07/2021 20:50

SUPERKING ALL THE WAY!!!!

LostArcher · 15/07/2021 20:59

Superking made up of two three foot beds that attach and zip up the mattresses - much easier to get up stairs and clean underneath. Also stops middle bed hogging.

soapboxqueen · 15/07/2021 21:19

Super king

Anything smaller just doesn't seem feasible anymore.

CathyorClaire · 15/07/2021 21:19

Superking.

You'll be asleep most of the time in a slightly unfinished room anyway.

purplesequins · 15/07/2021 21:21

we use 2 single duvets as they are easier to change. but 2 doubles if you have the bedding already would be nice as well I suppose.

Ragwort · 15/07/2021 21:26

Super king preferably on your own I have a super king sized bed & DH has a king - hate sharing a bed Grin

DeRigueurMortis · 15/07/2021 21:28

Bigger is always better with beds Grin

20viona · 15/07/2021 21:29

Superking alllllll day

Nahhh · 15/07/2021 21:30

Slept in a super king in a hotel recently. I didn’t like it. We both felt miles apart from each other. A bit of closeness is nice.

DoylyCarte · 15/07/2021 21:30

Superking million%

Room for double starfish shaped sleeping - what more do you want?!

Fetasalad · 15/07/2021 22:09

We have a king and dream of a super king! (Won't fit in our weirdly awkward shaped bedroom!) could never go back to a double.. I won't book hotels that have anything smaller than a king. Love the two mattresses and duvets idea! Is just put a throw over the top so its not obvious they're separate duvets. Live in an unfinished room for a while and indulge in a super king .

Imcatmum · 15/07/2021 22:18

Super king, no contest

steppingout · 15/07/2021 22:24

We just got a super king and I love it. We also have the zip and link option which means we both get the tension we prefer. We do share a duvet though!

Aquamarine1029 · 15/07/2021 22:27

Super King definitely and rip out the nasty carpeting while you're at it.

ThirdElephant · 16/07/2021 11:00

The carpet isn't bad at all, it's the built-in furniture and the lack of carpet underneath it that's the issue. That said, I think there is a clear consensus here and I'm going for the super king.

Question for the mattress-zip advocates- does it result in a hard line down the middle of the bed? If I want to starfish in the middle will that render it too uncomfortable to do so?

We have a zippped mattress due to the impossibility of getting a joined up superking mattress up decidedly awkward stairs.

Apart from the AngryAngry of it costing £100 more for the privilege of having it the zip's been more or less unnoticeable.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/07/2021 20:18

We’ve upgraded from king to superking, best decision ever. I put a waterproof mattress protecter on it just in case and within days dh cut his foot, the scab came off and went on the protecter.

BobaFettOnMyBedsideTable · 18/07/2021 20:35

Can't imagine life without our super king. We're off on holiday tomorrow and will have to share a double. The horror Grin
