Bed sizes- king or super king?

We've just moved and need to buy a new bed. The bed that was in the new house previously was a king size. I've wanted to get a superking for some time but to do that will mean ripping out some of the built-in bedside tables, leaving missing sections of carpet.

I don't like the style of the built-in bedroom furniture anyway but wasn't envisioning having to replace it all so soon- there are other rooms we want to prioritise first.

We had a double in our old house- should we just get a king so we can keep the existing furniture for a while or bite the bullet and go for a super king, even though the room will look unfinished for a year or more, realistically?

We got rid of our super king because we both almost felt as if we slept apart! If I fancied a cuddle during the night I was wide awake by the time I got to him

Isn’t changing a super king an absolute ball ache?

KatesBush1980 · 18/07/2021 20:44

Super king - hands down the best thing I've ever bought.

Had to do away with the bedside tables to fit in my room but have learnt to live without those.

Super king. It's the way forward.

TeaMeBasil · 18/07/2021 20:51

Superking 100%.

Don't regret it and wouldn't go back. We have a normal superking mattress & duvet.

It takes a bit more work to change the duvet cover but I use clips to hold it in place and then just shake it out. It's no problem when you get the hang of it.

Trouble with a superking is you'll never manage to sleep on a double again. We had to move to the twin and give DS the double in our holiday cottage recently.

In your circumstances I'd probably go with the King. Could it be moved to guest bedroom when you do get round to doing up bedroom?

CarrieMoonbeams · 19/07/2021 08:46

Superking here too, love it.

I found the 3 rows of pillows looked weird, personally and just having the 2 rows of pillows looked unfinished to me as there was a big space, so I splashed the cash and bought the Superking pillows and pillowcases from the White Company. Eye-wateringly expensive for me anyway, but it looks so much nicer I think.

I have a super king and I love it! although I think you get less sex because you're miles apart

Hairbrush123 · 21/07/2021 08:36

If you can, definitely super king.

thelegohooverer · 21/07/2021 16:10

I’m a snuggler and clearly in the minority but I’d stick with a king (or better yet a double). I’d buy a bigger duvet though.

MaverickDanger · 21/07/2021 16:13

Super king for sure.

We’re currently away trying to sleep with DS in a double and it’s a nightmare.

inappropriateraspberry · 21/07/2021 16:21

When we have a superking in a hotel it seems huge! We feel miles away from each other. We have a king at home and it's a great size.

Bluntness100 · 21/07/2021 16:24

@Nahhh

Slept in a super king in a hotel recently. I didn’t like it. We both felt miles apart from each other. A bit of closeness is nice.
You know there are no sleeping lanes, you can get close in one, the bed police don’t arrest you 😂

Super king here op, I’d go for it.

inappropriateraspberry · 21/07/2021 16:27

Yes but I like hugging the edge of the pillow and usually end up on the side anyway!

cloverleafy · 21/07/2021 16:31

Superking. Space for our bed was one of the first criteria when house buying.

ThirdElephant · 02/08/2021 20:04

Thanks everyone! We went for a Super King and I absolutely adore it! Very happy that I took the plunge.

Exciting! We are considering the same as you. Did you go for bigger pillows or just normal? And what quilt arrangement did you go for? My DH is very concerned that two singles or doubles will look rubbish when the bed is made....
ThirdElephant · 03/08/2021 16:20

@RavingAnnie

We have only bought the summer duvet as yet, so it's less of a commitment. We got the super king duvet, and the duvet cover came with regular-sized pillowcases, so we've just got our old pillows for now. I'm planning to get a few show cushions because they do look very small all on their own!
