I'm (hopefully) moving to my forever home soon. I've decided that I'd like to get some decent crockery. I've been living with Mia matched plates and cups for years. My dc are now of an age I don't have to have Peppa Pig cups and plastic plates.

I've seen these and LOVE them, but are they more 'grandma' and I'm kidding myself that they are somehow trendy?

I wouldn't worry about what anyone else may think, if you like them, then buy them.

StarryStarrySocks · 25/06/2021 12:41

I really like them! Which is surprising, as they're not my usual style at all.

ApolloandDaphne · 25/06/2021 12:48

I rather like them. You could never put them in the microwave though and they can't go in the dishwasher either.

hennybeans · 25/06/2021 12:52

I think they're pretty. I would probably chose something more plain and hard-wearing personally.
I'm also laughing, not in a unkind way, that you've complained about having mismatching crockery then chosen more "mismatching" crockery. ( I know, they are a set)

BigPyjamas · 25/06/2021 12:55

If you like them, buy them. Life is too short to not have something that would bring you joy, and can afford.

P.s I love them too. They would make me smile whenever I have a cup of tea

oohyoudevilyou · 25/06/2021 12:56

I don't like the design, but tea out of fine bone china tastes lovely, and a good sized mug is way better than a tiny teacup Smile

riotlady · 25/06/2021 12:56

I think they’re beautiful, agree that I would want something that could go in the dishwasher though!

Dontknownow86 · 25/06/2021 12:57

They are gorgeous. They probably aren't 'trendy' but who cares honestly... trendy stuff will just go out of fashion.

GreyhoundG1rl · 25/06/2021 12:57

Love them.

PickAChew · 25/06/2021 12:58

They're lovely but would need treating with care. I bet tea tastes great out of them.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/06/2021 12:58

I do like them, but they look like stuff I was buying on wedding lists at House of Fraser circa 2003.

Tuberoses · 25/06/2021 12:59

It really depends on your personal style. Personally I find them naff but some people must like them otherwise they wouldn’t sell them.

Kobayashi21 · 25/06/2021 12:59

Nice but insanely expensive for cups. You can get very similar for a fraction of the price.

PurplePansy05 · 25/06/2021 13:00

I really like them too!

NoYOUbekind · 25/06/2021 13:02

I love them, but don't buy stuff that doesn't go in the dishwasher or meecrowavey. If that doesn't bother you then go for it!

bigbaggyeyes · 25/06/2021 13:02

Grin I thought that too after writing the post @hennybeans

LolaSmiles · 25/06/2021 13:02

They're not my style but they are nice. If you like them, have them.

I've got a best set of crockery for having people over for meals (read- not for small DCGrin), but I'm starting to come round to the idea that instead of cheap day to day plates, it's worth having nice ones.

Doublestar · 25/06/2021 13:02

You will find something very similar in the charity shops atm as they are a bit passé in style now (ie chintzy cath kidston).
However I agree they are pretty and you should buy them because YOU like them, not anyone else. However I'd be loathe to pay £20-odd quid per cup if I wasn't sure about them.
Have you looked at Emma bridgewater pottery? I'm in my 10th year of collecting it - it doesn't seem to date at all and is sturdy enough for every day use whilst feeling a bit special.

BetterthanIthink · 25/06/2021 13:03

I don’t like them but so what ! If you love them them buy them!
Life’s too short to worry about what people think of your mugs Smile

Different people have different tastes. I personally think Emma Bridgewater mugs are clunky and ugly.
thelegohooverer · 25/06/2021 13:16

If they spark joy, have them!

0blio · 25/06/2021 13:20

Well I'm a grandma and they're not to my taste at all! But if you like them and can afford them you should have them of course.

Howshouldibehave · 25/06/2021 13:23

If crockery doesn’t go in the dishwasher or microwave, I wouldn’t buy it!

IntermittentParps · 25/06/2021 13:35

I wouldn't buy them personally but they're lovely and I'd be charmed if I went for tea at someone's house and they gave me one of them.

Mzy123 · 25/06/2021 13:40

I think that they are lovely.
