Coffee table books - Would you?

I have recently heard about this trend that has been around for about 10 years Blush. At first I thought it was a bit weird, as the pages are blank, but then I can see why people like the look of the books on a table/shelf.

Now I’m thinking of buying some books to style my coffee table Blush. Do you know anyone that has them? I think I would be embarrassed if someone picked one up only to find out it’s not a real book. Am I being daft even considering the purchase?

Do it if you're going to provide felt tipped pens as well.

I actually like that idea! I’d get one big book for guests to doodle in (with a view to keeping it).

I'd judge you far harsher for that ridiculous yoke than I would for displaying Sophie Kinsella's entire back catalogue Confused

* . I prefer online books or loaning a book from the library (I’m old school!)*

Anyone asking this question does not get books out of the library.

I say that because if you bothered to take books out from the library it would be because you enjoy reading and... books.
And you wouldn’t ask whether something as a fake book would be embarrassing. Because you’d know the answer.

I don't even understand what real 'coffee table books' are for. Staged for visitors to admire? Create some sort of persona for yourself?

Blank ones...jeez.

To look at and read, like any other books...But usually they have a more visual/creative/photographic bent. Like art in a book, to look through at your leisure.

Coffee table books are the kind of book you buy when your TBR pile is getting too high so you end up buying books that don't need much reading. See also: atlases, cookery books with lots of pictures, graphic novels. Or is that just me?

We have coffee table books, they are generally the ones that DH can't be bothered to put away

I'm getting a lovely Ercol style coffee table from Habitat, it has a railed shelf underneath for books & magazines, thing is I don't buy paper books or magazines, I E-read everything now, have Kobo for books & Readly for magazines, so I will probably put my tablet on the shelf instead.

I always have books on my coffee table but they are actively used because they interest me. Blank ones are ludicrous
