Re doing our bedroom...no room for a dressing table...what do you use?

OP posts:

Sit on my bed... walk to the bathroom to check the mirror.

lazylinguist · 28/02/2021 14:33

Standing up in front of mirror on the wall. I start off drying my hair upside down with my head hanging down, so sitting down wouldn't work anyway!

Gwenhwyfar · 28/02/2021 14:38

Do you mean a blow dry? Because I don't need a mirror because all I do is point the dryer at my hair until it's dry.
This thread is making me think there's something wrong with me though because I would find it really hard to stand up for all that time, even though it's probably only 5 to 10 minutes!

Gwenhwyfar · 28/02/2021 14:40

"I start off drying my hair upside down with my head hanging down, so sitting down wouldn't work anyway!"

Why can't you have your hair upside down and sit down?

dementedma · 28/02/2021 14:40

I dont have a hair dryer. Just towel and go

Robin233 · 28/02/2021 14:46

@ScoobyBlues

I've a mirror on my window sill and I do my hair and make up there.

Same^^
I sit on the bed and a free standing oval mirror on the window sill.

Um... I sit while my head’s upside down

A hairdryer! 🤷‍♀️ 😂

Seriously, there’s a mirror on the wall and I just stand up and dry my hair.

Fair enough! I'm pretty flexible, but I don't think I'd achieve a fully inverted head position while sitting on chair.

cookiedoughsweetiepie · 28/02/2021 15:06

Never had a dressing table.

Mirror on inside of wardrobe door. Close it up neat and tidy when done.

tabulahrasa · 28/02/2021 15:38

“Fair enough! I'm pretty flexible, but I don't think I'd achieve a fully inverted head position while sitting on chair.”

I’d love to pretend I’m flexible Grin

But no, it’s easier sitting, that’s why I do it, lol, I mean I could get my head in the same sort of place standing, but only briefly or I’d run the risk of getting stuck there, Blush

I don’t sit normally, it’s sort of a perching on the edge with my legs apart.

It’s what I do at the hairdressers too... curly hair see, so it diffuses better upside down.

HappyAsASandboy · 28/02/2021 15:44

Extension lead in bedroom ending just outside the en-suite bathroom door. Use hairdryer in front of the bathroom mirror, with wire trailing through the en-suite door.

I hate it and wish we could have sockets in the bathroom.

LienD · 28/02/2021 15:51

Why can't you have sockets in the bathroom? In Europe this is very normal 🙈

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 28/02/2021 15:54

I don't have a dressing table or a hairdryer. Towel dry, brush and go.

I never understood this either. Is there a reason?

That said, I don't own a hair dryer. Mirrors in the bathroom and full length in the bedroom. Towel dry and brush while damp. Curls will do what they do.

flowery · 28/02/2021 16:05

I find it much easier drying my hair standing up. I have a mirror on the wall and hairdryer/straighteners etc in a basket with a lid underneath.

Ah - Grin I can easily stand with my legs straight and together and put my hands flat on the floor and even bend my elbows slightly, so getting stuck not a problem! Rather less enviably, I have pathetically thin, fine hair which takes no time to dry, so I'm not dangling upside down for very long!

Oblomov21 · 28/02/2021 16:35

Never had a dressing table. Don't fancy one. I just stand in front of the wardrobe which has a mirror.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/02/2021 17:04

Health and safety.
Britain is still in Europe though, just not in the EU.

I don't get this. It's just putting your head down, isn't it?
Sportsnight · 28/02/2021 17:07

I don’t look in the mirror to dry my hair. I didn’t realise you were supposed to.

SnowyBranches · 28/02/2021 17:09

I have a hairdryer plugged into a socket next to a full length mirror in my bedroom, the kind that stands up on little trestle legs. I sit on the floor or on my bed. The top of my chest of drawers next to the mirror plays the part of a dressing table in that that’s where I keep my bottles of perfume, makeup, hairbrush, jewellery.
I have never had a dressing table but my mum used to. I loved the little built in drawers, and always hoped there would be a secret drawer somewhere. In my mind a dressing table should always have a musical jewellery box on it, with a ballerina that spins round!

I think may be because the U.K. uses higher voltage (it's something like 220, and the US is 110 - not sure about Europe though). My understanding was that it's too powerful to be safe near water and plumbing.

I'm sure someone with a more definitive answer will come and explain though Smile

Same voltage in the rest of Europe. It's just health and safety regulations.

I don't either, but I just dry my hair. I suppose you would need a mirror if you were doing a blow dry i.e. styling your hair as you dry it.
