A greens grey paint, but for a North facing room

We have a large north facing downstairs room, used as a playroom. Flooring will be amtico in a dark oak, we have this rug tm-interiors.co.uk/rugs-brands/harlequin-floreale-rug-maize-44906, sofas are mid grey, curtains are a pale gold damask.

I was hopeful for f&b mizzle www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours/mizzle but despite what they say, I think it looks a bit too blue and I think that may be because the room is north facing.

Any other suggestions please? I’ve also tried dulux Jurassic stone (too pale) and f&b french grey (too dark).

I went for F&B hardwick white and years later I'm still delighted with it. I was worried it would be too dark but it's just right I think

Shadowboy · 30/01/2021 17:49

Could you go bone? I love Mizzle and it’s definitely green in our bathroom (east facing) bone a green colour.

Noflora · 30/01/2021 17:50

Dulux Dusted Moss 2 .I started with it in a northfacing hallway, now I have it in TV room and bedrooms too. It is definitely grey, I'd take a picture if it was daylight. I have it next to steel grey thermal door curtains and that doesn't make it look beige at all.

In spite of its name, Farrow & Ball Blue Gray looks grey green in my north facing living room. If that’s too dark, how about Cromarty?

WellTidy · 30/01/2021 20:53

Thank you all. I’ve tried f&b hardwicke white, and I can’t see any green in it, unfortunately. To me, in my room, it’s a proper grey. Ditto dulux dusted moss 2.

Bone is lovely, but I have a lot of a very similar colour on other rooms and I would like something a bit different.

I will try Cromarty. And I hadn’t thought of Blue Gray so I will give that a go too.

The north facing aspect has really thrown my view of colour!

How about Dulux Tranquail Dawn.

Verte de Terre

Looks very green in S facing but grey green in N facing

Basically you need something with more colour and warm/yellow undertones

DareIask · 30/01/2021 23:27

F & B light gray is really mid green/grey.

WellTidy · 30/01/2021 23:40

Thanks all.

Dulux tranquil dawn is very blue in my room. I had high hopes but it’s very much a no.

Verte de terre is a good call, thanks. Will give that a go.

Another F&B colour you could try is Pidgeon it's a very green grey especially in a north facing rooms.

Well. I am still searching! The colour I had high hopes for (Vert de Terre) is very dark in the room. Bone is too dark. Pigeon and Pavillion Grey are very, very dark in the room too, unfortunately. Cromarty is sold out locally, so I will make a trip for it at the weekend. It looks so pale on the F&B colour fan, but I imagine in my room it will be substantially darker.

If you can say which colour you like the most - but is too dark/grey/colourful etc - I can find a lighter alternative via colour measurement data. 🌈

dontcallmelen · 03/02/2021 17:56

Hi @WellTidy I have a similar room & went for grey-green linen by valspar it’s a truer greeny/grey than mizzle, I drove myself bonkers looking for a greeny/grey colour a few months ago & went through umpteen sample pots, the valspar I used was the 700 matt it’s very flat & good colour depth & covered really well.

I’ve got f&t Theresa’s green in my north east facing room. It is green, but often people say it looks grey or blue, depending on the light. I have a wooden floor too.

Would a photo be too outing? I'm thinking of this colour for an NE-facing bedroom.
Kdubs1981 · 03/02/2021 18:10

F&b bone?

WellTidy · 03/02/2021 18:38

colette thank you. Dulux Jurassic stone is the closest I’ve come, but if is too pale. In my room, it is a green, not that it looks it on the colour chart. I would like a darker shade.

F&B mizzle is way too dark, and that it the palest of all the recommendations on this thread.

I would like a grey with green in it, but it needs to be lighter than all the recommendations on this thread!

dont— I will absolutely try that colour. It looks only grey on my phone, but I am ignoring all the colour charts!

OP posts:
dontcallmelen · 03/02/2021 18:58

Definitely not grey in my room, green with greyish undertone
I had Theresa green in my hall way a few years ago & looked green/blue hue

WellTidy · 03/02/2021 19:00

Posted to soon, my front room is north facing & for years I went with pale colours trying to lighten/make it warmer feeling but this time embraced the north facing light wit the green/grey shade & incorporated some pink & silvery grey cushions/throws etc
