Is this painting too big for the space?

So I’ve bought an oil painting I fell in love with but am worried it’s too big for the space...
What do you think, is it a bit overbearing? The artist assured me it would be fine over a fireplace heat-wise.

It looks perfect to me.

BlackBrowedAlbatross · 23/01/2021 15:18

Looks good to me Smile

WisestIsShe · 23/01/2021 15:18

I think it looks perfect for the space. It's a lovely painting.

Mumdiva99 · 23/01/2021 15:19

Perfect.

havemybreakfastthen · 23/01/2021 15:20

Looks great

DoesTheSizeMatter · 23/01/2021 15:20

Thank you, that’s really reassuring! Maybe it’s just because I’m used to a blank space.

I think it'll be fine as long as you get the gap between the fireplace & the bottom
If the painting right.

Not too sure about the bright sunshine's though...

Bunchup · 23/01/2021 15:21

Very nice. It's rare for a painting to be too big for its space, ime. Far more common to see mincy, apologetic little prints adrift in acres of wall.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 23/01/2021 15:22

Actually, looking again, I think I would find it a bit over bearing & id try to find another place for it, but I think it's just what YOU think as it doesn't look awful as a visitor.

user1471530109 · 23/01/2021 15:23

OP, it looks fantastic. Can I be cheeky and ask who the artist is?. I love the colours. I've only got cheap prints and would love an oil painting.

DoesTheSizeMatter · 23/01/2021 15:24

Ha, it’s my DD in disguise, she was mortified at the thought of being on mumsnet!

@user1471530109 she’s a Scottish artist called Dot Walker

Looks good to me. Just have an even gap all the way round.
I just looked at her website and her work is gorgeous. Very atmospheric.

RedPandaFluff · 23/01/2021 19:12

Love it - agree with PP, make sure the painting is 'framed' by an even border of wall Grin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 23/01/2021 19:32

that's lovely, and suits that position

just had a little look at her website, some lovely atmospheric scenery there.

MuchTooTired · 23/01/2021 19:37

I think it’s a great painting and looks fab on the wall!

Am off to google your DD now and see if she has any artwork for sale!

HollowTalk · 23/01/2021 19:39

I agree with a PP about having an even gap around it - it's nearer to the bottom edge than the top at the moment.

Chasingsquirrels · 23/01/2021 19:39

Looks fab in the space.

I did wonder about it being above the fire as I looked at the pictures, then read you'd covered that.

DoesTheSizeMatter · 23/01/2021 19:58

Nooo it’s not my DD who painted it (she’s 15!) it’s my DD under the sunshines holding it in position 😂

DoesTheSizeMatter · 23/01/2021 20:00

But yes Dot Walker is brilliant, great combination of abstract and ‘traditional’. It’s up now, very happy thanks for the reassurance!

It's gorgeous. Perfect in that spot.

WeAreHalfWayThere · 23/01/2021 20:15

Looks absolutely fine

LynetteScavo · 23/01/2021 20:26

The fact that it's exactly the same width as the fireplace would irritate the hell out of me.

Confused

Lovely picture, though.

buckeejit · 23/01/2021 21:27

It's another perfect from me. Love it

GallowsHumour · 23/01/2021 21:28

Exactly this. It’s exactly the right size for the space.
