Is this painting too big for the space?

So I’ve bought an oil painting I fell in love with but am worried it’s too big for the space...
What do you think, is it a bit overbearing? The artist assured me it would be fine over a fireplace heat-wise.

The fact that it's exactly the same width as the fireplace would irritate the hell out of me.

I’d budge it up an inch or so to make the gap over the fireplace very slightly larger than the gap below the ceiling.

I think it needs a bigger gap above the fireplace opening and therefore that it's too large. I'd also think about whether the heat will damage the oil paint.

My daughter is an oil painter and thinks it might fade or deteriorate.
