Of the two, I prefer the lighter coloured shades; the lamps with the darker shades look too boxxy.

FrazzledFTM · 27/12/2020 15:03

If that's your bedroom then I think the 2nd match your decor more. They go well with the print above the bed

PragmaticWench · 27/12/2020 15:06

The darker pair work better with the tables, headboard and mirror frame.

Do the darker shades fit on the clear lamps though?

ExpensivelyDecorated · 27/12/2020 15:06

The pale ones, I don't like the look of the dark ones at all and they look as though they would throw all the light upwards which is no good for reading. Although to be honest neither look bright enough to me.

JustPassingByCarryOn · 27/12/2020 15:07

Not sure.

Second one goes with the space.

Ist one gives a bit of a contrast so it doesn't all look too matchy-matchy.

So depends on the look you're going for.

MyNameForToday1980 · 27/12/2020 15:08

1 (the light ones), every time.

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2020 15:09

The shades on the box ones are far too small for the base. Did they come like that.?

JustPassingByCarryOn · 27/12/2020 15:12

Also, the room looks like it will be clearer/well lit with the first one while giving more of a cosy feel with the second.

So again it depends what you're going for.

For looks alone without considering the space, I prefer the look of the second lamps.

SeasonFinale · 27/12/2020 15:12

1 - the lighter ones.

CassandraCross · 27/12/2020 15:12

The lamps on the right hand side of the bed both look a bit wobbly/at an angle?

I prefer the darker ones, my only concern with them from my point of view would be whether they gave enough light for me to read in bed!

Looking again the lighter ones both look wobbly, especially the shades, and unstable. The darker ones look more substantial and in keeping with the decor.

Oneearringlost · 27/12/2020 15:28

The ones on the L of the pics, the lighter ones, no contest for me

GezFox · 27/12/2020 16:45

Thanks so much ! Love your advice! I was for the lighter ones and OH the darker ones. We don't read in bed and as for the vibe we are trying to create well that's what I am useless at ! I just updated a post from august with some pics of the room for advice but don't know how to put the link here? It's called Style Advice - if anyone can link it to this post I would be really grateful! Thanks 🙏

I think both are far too small, especially if they're really there for the look rather than the function.

Letsplough · 27/12/2020 17:34

First pic looks better

Tangledtresses · 27/12/2020 17:36

The black shades and dark wood work better with the room

But the lamps are a bit off too boxy and need bigger round shades

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2020 20:12

The dark ones would be much better and more stylish, but the shades need to be twice the size. They are totally wrong for the bases. Far too small and don’t fit on those bases.

However if the shades can’t be swapped for bigger ones that fit the bases then the light ones are better, they are quite basic, but better than bases with too small shades.

GezFox · 27/12/2020 21:58

Thanks @Bluntness100 ! Would you go same colour for shade as currently just bigger? And square shade or round? X

I think that shape and colour is great and works with the picture, but it needs to be several inches wider.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 27/12/2020 22:27

To be frank - I don't like either of them. They are both too small, so look unbalanced next to the bed. With regard to the general style of the room, it's so bare and neutral that it's hard to get an idea of what your personal style is. What are you into? What colours do you like?

As a starting point, I'd think of bigger, orange shades for lamps. Maybe a richer colour like an olive green on the walls?

But I am in awe of how tidy and clean the room is 🥰🥰

GezFox · 27/12/2020 22:41

Thanks ! It's not normally this tidy ! I will post some pics of other rooms but just haven't got around to even thinking about our bedroom. I am rubbish at making decisions and too worries about what if I don't like it / go off it too quick that I always put off. Also very time poor as well . All your advice is great!
Doesn't let that husband is also colour phobic and therefore we end on the world of cream.... we never even did grey, that's how behind the curve we are!

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 27/12/2020 22:45

Your husband's colour phobia explains the clean and clear lines! In that case, I'd go with shape. Some BIG shades and some textured cushions/throws/rugs might give you something to cling to.

GezFox · 29/12/2020 08:57

@DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy I think that has to be the way forward! Needs cosying up !

The first one.
