Paint colour for living room - choice of two - help

Hi

I’m trying to select a colour paint for our NE facing living room. Was going to do a feature wall of a dark colour but Hi

I’m trying to select a colour paint for our NE facing living room. Was going to do a feature wall but of something dark but we don’t have a chimney breast and I think a think just painting one whole Wall will look funny.
I have a dark teal velvet sofa and a greeny/blue sofa and I am worried if I choose a dark blue - the teal sofa will just blend into the background.
So have narrowed it down to f&b de Nimes or f&b vert de Terre.
But the greeny sofa might just merge into the very de Terre wall.

We mostly use the room in the evening and always have a blind down so the room is usually quite dark even in the day time - I just pulled up the blinds for the photos. I was going to do a dark feature wall but we don’t have a chimney breast and I think just painting one whole wall will look funny.

We mostly use the room in the evening as it’s our ‘good’ room and always have a blind down so the room is usually quite dark (even in the day time) - I just pulled up the blind for the photos.

Dh wants to go for the lighter colour but he’d be happy if the whole house was magnolia...

I have bought so many testers that I am worried I am over thinking things now....could also choose something like settling plaster but really need some advice before I go near a paint shop again...

Sorry - lot of copying and paste errors there and I can’t seem to edit the original message. Basically need help choosing between the two paints

I'm thinking isn't either sofa going to blend in just too much ?

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 27/11/2020 12:08

My preference would be for something contrasting, I agree a blue or green will make your sofas disappear.

NoSquirrels · 27/11/2020 12:10

The lighter one is lovely.

Pippielk · 27/11/2020 12:16

I don’t know what to choose other than very pastel colours if I don’t want them to blend in and I want to go for a braver
colour
This is the lighter colour beside the lighter couch - are they too samey?

The lighter one is better for the whole room, and, without a feature to highlight I wouldn't do a single wall. To prevent the lighter sofa disappearing you need to get some high contrast soft accents. Your scatter cushions blend too well.

NoSquirrels · 27/11/2020 12:24

The lighter one is lovely, honestly. We had similar in a darkish living room and it was really cosy.

Pippielk · 27/11/2020 12:26

Thanks for the replies - its great to hear others viewpoints. Yea I was thinking maybe orange velvet cushions as a contrast or dusty pink (but that might be too muted).

I think pink would look good

I love those colours and am thinking of De Nimes for my kitchen but my living room is Craig & Rose feature wall in French Turquose and the rest on Morris Blue. The Morris blue would look nice against your sofas I reckon.

Crazzzycat · 27/11/2020 12:35

I used to have Verte de Terre in my north facing living room, but because of the light it looked a bit grey and dirty in mine ☹️

Next time I’m decorating I’m planning to go for a much warmer colour, something like Hay, or maybe Sudsbury Yellow if I’m brave enough. I don’t want to confuse matters, but I think a colour like Hay would go really well with your sofa too..,

I really like the dark sofa next to the darker wall colour. It adds layers richness through differing texture and sheen rather than colour. But I would be inclined to envelop the whole room that way.

Here are a few lighter and darker colours, similar to De Nîmes.
A few suggestions for companion colours to work alongside.
And colour attributes of Inchyra Blue.

I like the de mines. The sofa will sit quietly against it, but that might be nice as it’ll feel more spacious?
Then strong warm coloured and textured things to go with it.

Though it’ll be a pig to paint over if it doesn’t work out!

Pippielk · 27/11/2020 14:48

I showed my husband the bright pink you linked Yewtown - and I got a response like there’s no way I’m sitting in a pink living room.

I’ve popped out and bought a settling plaster and a hay tester - just to see how they look. Will pop a picture up here tomorrow.

Interesting Collete about the layering...whatever colour I decide on I’m going to do the whole room in it - apart from ceilings and maybe woodwork. I tried Inchyra blue but it was a bit flat looking in the daytime in that room - but will check out colours on the colour wheel for more ideas.

Im just about to paint our whole room in Inchyra Blue.
I'd be inclined to go with the colour you love - it's only paint at the end of the day.
Im going to have some contrasting cushions and another chair in Rust to break up the blue.
But I think your colours will look lovely.

Pippielk · 28/11/2020 11:58

Added a tester of pink setting plaster and yellow Hay and think of those two I prefer the pinky one or even a more pastel pink might be better - although that is veering way from my idea of using bold colours.

Crazy cat - I must paint a bit of the actual wall in vert de terre after your experience as you can’t really tell from the small swatch.

I’m not sure what colour I really love - probably like the de nimes the most but should have though of what colour sofas would work with that before I splurged on the teal ones.

I think peignoir would look great. I think setting plaster is too warm to work with the cushions and footstool

I like the pink one I think I also want your sofa. Where's it from please?

Bluntness100 · 28/11/2020 16:15

I have vert de Terre in my downstairs loo, it’s lovely but I’d go for f &b french grey as a better match for the two colours.

Karcheer · 28/11/2020 17:04

I think you've got lots of options that'll still be quite bold. I found these images which may help

Oval Room Blue is similar to De Nîmes but lighter.

Pippielk · 28/11/2020 20:59

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I really like the deep coral image Karcheer and will try the peignor and French grey too.
I have tried oval blue Colette100 - was just a bit too blue but might use it in my hallway as I like it.
Polkadotpj - I got the sofas in a independent furniture shop in Belfast - it’s made by Alstons and is their Lexi range.

We’ve got de Nîmes in our living room. I love it!

colette100 · 28/11/2020 21:48

Good Luck ! 🌈

Pippielk · 30/11/2020 10:34

Tried the peignoir (Valparaiso copy as there were no f&b testers In stock) and French grey - both on the left hand side on the image. The French grey is very close to the vert de terre (beside it)...and I think the peignoir feels a bit too cold for the room.
Threw in a random Dulux copper blush too - it’s a bit too dark but a paler more muted coral might work...
