Hi

I’m trying to select a colour paint for our NE facing living room. Was going to do a feature wall of a dark colour but Hi

I’m trying to select a colour paint for our NE facing living room. Was going to do a feature wall but of something dark but we don’t have a chimney breast and I think a think just painting one whole Wall will look funny.
I have a dark teal velvet sofa and a greeny/blue sofa and I am worried if I choose a dark blue - the teal sofa will just blend into the background.
So have narrowed it down to f&b de Nimes or f&b vert de Terre.
But the greeny sofa might just merge into the very de Terre wall.

We mostly use the room in the evening and always have a blind down so the room is usually quite dark even in the day time - I just pulled up the blinds for the photos. I was going to do a dark feature wall but we don’t have a chimney breast and I think just painting one whole wall will look funny.

We mostly use the room in the evening as it’s our ‘good’ room and always have a blind down so the room is usually quite dark (even in the day time) - I just pulled up the blind for the photos.

Dh wants to go for the lighter colour but he’d be happy if the whole house was magnolia...

I have bought so many testers that I am worried I am over thinking things now....could also choose something like settling plaster but really need some advice before I go near a paint shop again...

I'd go for a pastel pink.
The colours you have chosen are a bit drab.

Eek, yes that Peignoir does not look pleasant at all 😬

Instead of thinking of the actual colour on the wall, what is the overall look you’re trying to create? Is it warm and cosy, or more of a calm feel? I think the French grey is a better match with your sofa than the Terre Vert, but I don’t think either colour would make the room feel particularly cosy, especially as it’s north facing. But if that’s not a priority for you, that obviously doesn’t matter 🤔

If you’re looking for a pink, there are much nicer pinks available than Peignoir. I have Pink Ground in my north facing bedroom, which has a lovely warm glow to it, even in cold winter light. I’d hesitate to suggest you get yet another tester, but I think that colour may well go with your sofa 🙈

Some examples for you - I think the picture with the sofa is Pink Ground, the one with the chairs is definitely Setting Plaster

Not sure if this helps, or makes things even more complicated 🙃

Crazzycat - I’m trying to have warm and cozy...hence the de nemes and why I was trying to stay away from pastel colours. It’s a room where we go to relax, watch TV, have coffee and chat with friends etc. (whenever we can sociliase with people in our homes again) - and somewhere we don’t use much during the day time as we have another family/play/messy room to hang out in.

I like the pink pastels with the teal through but that’s more the calming look - but tbh I’m so sick of this process of picking a colour that I’ll settle now for anything that looks ok.

Mike uniform Mike - I see those colours on pininterest and they look so stylish but will try a light pink to see how it looks.

I went out at lunch to get calamine and pink ground but the local shop didn’t have them and had no stock to make a colour match - have to go further afield but I’ll post after I try them....and hopefully I can find a nice warm coral too.

The lighter one. X

Went off and got more testers which are on wall from left to right: calamine, dulux (jungle ginger 4 -such a name 😮) pink ground.

I think pink ground looks the best - it’s warm and while it’s pastel and far removed from what I originally thought - think it’s probably the best choice. Good to know too crazycat - you think it looks warm in a north facing room. At least I have lots of samples for picking colours for the the rest of the house and will try some of the darker bold colours in some other rooms,

I like Pink Ground.

The darker ones all look a bit like you're trying to make the room something it's not. Your aim is something that makes you smile, a room you want to be in. Not something that looks good on Instagram, but is pretty miserable to sit in!

BasiliskStare · 03/12/2020 11:35

I like the de Nimes & I think yes - the contrast in texture would look really lovely as Colette100 said similar idea to Karcheer's 3rd photo. But I would do the colour all over . I am sure it will look lovely whatever

iswhois · 03/12/2020 11:37

I like the peachy ones

Karcheer · 03/12/2020 12:14

I like the Jungle one and de Nimes and definitely would paint all walls

stayathomer · 03/12/2020 12:16

Mil has the exact dark one and the room is very dark all the time, a feature wall like you thought might be better?

stayathomer · 03/12/2020 12:18

Sorry, just saw your update, love the one you like!

IAmcuriousyellow · 03/12/2020 12:18

I have a room with similar coloured sofas and the walls are Farrows Cream but from your choices I like Pink Ground

Othering · 03/12/2020 12:38

How about a wallpaper, so you can still have your favourite teal/green colours but add a bit of contrast with different colours?

nergissahin · 08/12/2020 00:29

I really like the pink one. You can use colored roller blinds.
