What would you do with this kitchen

The floor needs to stay as do the worktops. The turquoise cabinets look ok on a hot summer day in a Caribbean tropical kinda way. Less good on a cold November day. It’s very light & south facing (ish) yet has a cold feel. So needs warming up. We painted the walls white on moving in just to freshen it up but that adds to the coldness. Love to see your ideas.

I think kitchen looks good, what about shutter blinds on doors/windows and some fabulous wallpaper and plants.

nancybotwinbloom · 10/11/2020 17:52

Fit at the island and work and drink wine

NotDonna · 10/11/2020 18:41

@nancybotwinbloom that’s a given!! Lots of sitting and drinking! Smile

I love your stools! Just lightly sand and spray paint them to fit in with your finished theme. They are too black and officey. Where did you get them?

Geppili · 10/11/2020 18:59

Paint the recesses of your ceiling windows with copper.

nancybotwinbloom · 10/11/2020 19:04

I've just had a dark grey kitchen fitted (I know grey) with rose gold handles and I've seen some gorgeous Kitchens with olive walls. If you google grey kitchen with green walls you will see some.

Mine is too small for green but might look lovely in yours.

IdblowJonSnow · 10/11/2020 19:06

Nothing. It's lovely.
I agree it's quite cold but I like a cold looking kitchen!

Constance1 · 10/11/2020 19:18

I would paint the units a dark green something like Little Green's Mid Azure Green. I think the space is big enough to handle a bold colour.

NotDonna · 10/11/2020 19:40

@Geppili The stools are Kartell masters bought from Heal’s. Not cheap especially for 6.

@NotDonna thank you! I love them. I want to buy dining chairs like that. I bet they are really comfortable. FWIW your kitchen is beautiful!

Bowerbird5 · 11/11/2020 09:42

I’ll have to check the paint chart as your Dimity looks more like stone. I know I changed my mind at the last minute before they started painting the last two coats.
Here is a bit of my kitchen.

Actually in the photo they do look more like the colour you have painted. Our kitchen is a bit dark in the winter. They look a bit whiter normally. I had a cherry wood kitchen before so it is quite a change. I have got sick of it after two years I still love it.

Warm pink walls is the easiest and cheapest way to transform your kitchen

Onekidnoclue · 11/11/2020 09:52

I’m afraid I’m going to be controversial! The lights are far too small. You need ones much larger. Also. I think the units should be as deep green with walls off white leaning to pink (dimity is good for this). You’ll need to change the handles too. Something small and Matt, brass if you’re feeling trendy! Sell the stools.

Also... I think six stools is too many. Could you manage with four?
Onto the dining area! Again I think the lights are too small and get lost. You need a single big, low light over the table. Anchor the table with a rug and change the chairs for fabric so they look comfy and inviting. At the moment there’s a bit of a meeting room vibe. Lastly get some plants. A massive one in the corner of the dining room but would work wonders. A fig tree would be brilliant.

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 10:03

I think I would paint the units Stiffkey blue and put warm copper lights in over the island. Also maybe dress the windows in some way as that would warm it up - maybe blinds. I would probably leave the walls white.

NotDonna · 11/11/2020 12:25

@Onekidnoclue that has made me howl!! We’ve already reduced the stools from 8 to 6!! There’s a lot of us!! I’m also wondering if the green you suggest is too much with our dark slate flooring. That has to stay, I’m afraid. I haven’t the energy to lift it all up, it’d be a hugely expensive job as it’s a big 12 x 6 metre room - and so messy. I don’t think it’s worth the hassle tbh.

@Bowerbird5 lighting makes such a massive difference. I have Dimity on some bathroom/bedroom ceilings and it looks nothing like stone/cream but they’re north facing rooms & on ceiling so a very different light to our south facing kitchen walls.
I’ve been looking at shaded white and shadow white - I think they could warm it up. But finding it hard to find any proper photos.

Hmmm the room is so light and the work top is light so I think dark would be fine. Bigger lights would help for the evenings.
How could you need 8 stools? It’s not a bus stop?!? How many in your house?!?
Totally agree about the floor, though I think a rug under the table and some new chairs would help a lot with softening the look. Also a great light over the table would make a big difference.

Onekidnoclue · 11/11/2020 12:36

Also. Try Lick for the stick on paint samples to try in different corners.

yawnyawn4 · 11/11/2020 12:48

I'd paint the cabinets either sage green, a dusky pink or navy blue. Brass handles and different bar stools. Lovely room though.

NotDonna · 11/11/2020 14:25

You’re all being so helpful!! What’s ‘lick for the stick’ @Onekidnoclue ? Googled it but nada.

These crackers

www.lickhome.com/samples

You can get a few and stick them in different corners to see how they look in different lights. Less mess than paint and no need to go out 👍

Blueberries0112 · 11/11/2020 15:39

I would paint the cabinets.

Blueberries0112 · 11/11/2020 15:45

Try searching kitchen with quartzite or bluestone
