What would you do with this kitchen

The floor needs to stay as do the worktops. The turquoise cabinets look ok on a hot summer day in a Caribbean tropical kinda way. Less good on a cold November day. It’s very light & south facing (ish) yet has a cold feel. So needs warming up. We painted the walls white on moving in just to freshen it up but that adds to the coldness. Love to see your ideas.

Gatekeeper brick red would look amazing with ths floor. Or burnt orange. Maybe paint the island that colour, have the other units something more farrow and ball?

I love a bold colour but the fashion is much more beige/grey/navy. Or whatever f&b call griege.

FippertyGibbett · 07/11/2020 15:29

I would leave it as it is and change the floor to white.

StCharlotte · 07/11/2020 15:45

I have a similar floor and work surface but with cream units and white walls. I love it.

In your kitchen I might embrace the Brighton vibe and go with that.

Sorry but the stools are (fabulous but) wrong.

jomaIone · 07/11/2020 15:45

I really like the turquoise, would probably consider changing the floor to oak style vinyl, if it were mine which would warm it up no end. Defo change the stools and maybe door knobs too.

imabusybee · 07/11/2020 16:08

I have similar floor in my new kitchen and have painted my walls Deep Blush by Valspar - a gorgeous deep dusty pink which has really warmed up the room (also a sunny bright room). I love it Grin

Ellapaella · 07/11/2020 16:10

I would paint all the units with Frenchic or similar paint. I'd go for a more neutral colour - everything else looks good to me

SleeplessWB · 07/11/2020 16:12

We had a floor like that and even with cream cabinets it still looked and felt so cold. We swapped for wood in the end which I appreciate you don't want to do. I think some nice blinds, warmer walls and fabric bar stools would make a difference. Seems a shame to paint the cabinets - they are a lovely colour.

ForthPlace · 07/11/2020 19:37

I love it as it is! I would change the stools to rattan and add basket wear and more wooden accessories (plant pots and plants, wooden chopping boards.

I like the idea of the pink wall, I'd put it in the dining end and add a large rug in rattan too.

Bowerbird5 · 07/11/2020 22:45

I would paint the units F&B Dimity. It is an off white with a hint of pink in the paint which makes it a warm white. I have them with a green worktop and a tiled floor green tinge and some brown

NotDonna · 08/11/2020 08:58

Lots of fabulous suggestions thank you!
It has underfloor heating so is actually toastie just doesn’t look it. No one likes the stools 🤣 despite being a recent purchase.
@tilder and @Gatekeeper I had not considered red. I quite like Rectory Red or Incardine but think the island would work but dyou think it could be a bit much?
@Crazzzycat pink ground is very interesting wall colour. And I think you are right that it could work with the floor. Do you have photos of yours please? Also interested in seeing the deep blush @iamabusybee - I obviously wouldn’t have red units and pink walls though! Again, dimity is an interesting choice forthe units @Bowerbird5 I like a hint of pink. We have peignoir in our bedroom and ensuite and I love it.
I wonder if incardine island and dimity units would work? But what wall colour?
@StCharlotte do your white walls and cream units look homely? photo please? And what’s the Brighton vibe?

Is dimity a kind of beige colour? Incardine is beautiful. I could see it working well with the light tops and dark floor. It would also go well with dimity. Would dimity go with the work tops?

It's a beautiful kitchen. All that light.

HBGKC · 08/11/2020 12:31

A blush pink could work, or I was thinking a warm bright yellow would really make the cabinetry and counter-top 'sing'!

NotDonna · 08/11/2020 14:03

@HBGKC I love Babouche and it’d be ok on the island but too much everywhere else. I need to get hold of other paint charts. Only ever used F&B but need to look around a bit more! It’s a constantly messy much used kitchen with my teens constantly cooking (and not tidying up).
Dimity is described as a taupe by F&B @tilder I use a lot of Joa’s white which I think is taupe but dimity is a white to me. I’ve got it on a bedroom ceiling with Peignoir.

I'd paint the cabinet a neutral colour but put colour on the wall. Nice style kitchen though.

I would 100% change the floor. That's why it feels cold. A pale oak would look amazing. Some floors you can lay straight over existing tiles.

I would paint units inchyra blue.

NotDonna · 08/11/2020 15:03

This is Dimity in the first photo against the granite backsplash. The other photo shows Joa’s White on the wall to the right and Dimity to the left. With Dimity chips leaning against. Then Joa’s white on the cabinet with a Dimity chip. The Dimity looks a bit too peachy.

We’ve got our main lounge in Inchrya blue including the ceiling so don’t fancy it for the kitchen. I don’t think we’d feel the underfloor heating if we covered the flooring either. I do agree though.

Definitely change the floor. Nice warm oak flooring. It's lovely other than the floor.

crumpet · 08/11/2020 15:25

I think the cabinets are a pretty colour. Perhaps As you have so much light you can paint the long wall with French windows in something like Downpipe - or a similar colour to tone with the floor, and the remaining walls a warmer shade of white - something like Timeless.

tilder · 08/11/2020 17:28

It does look peachy. I don't use f&b (cob house) so I'm not familiar with the colours. The website pairs incardine with blackened. Which looks like a light grey with a bit of taupe.

Replacing the floor would be a big job and I agree that an overlay would limit the underfloor heating.

imabusybee · 08/11/2020 18:07

This is my (far from finished!) kitchen. Excuse the mess! We've put the flooring down since, and have dark grey appliances (f/f and w/m) & an anthracite column radiator and the whole thing ties together really well. Although I'm obviously biased Grin

My kitchen is homely but much smaller than yours so that might make a difference. Everything in Brighton is that sort of turquoise but judging by the picture of a bit of painted cupboard, I'm guessing that ship has sailed?

The "white" on the far walls is Timeless by Dulux.

willitbetonight · 09/11/2020 01:36

De nimes would look nice. Or maybe smoke green (or is it green smoke??!!).

Have you got electric or piped underfloor heating? I was surprised in our bathroom that it was not overly expensive to change our floor. Ours was electric but the price of matting has come right down. If it's a water system it should be in screed and I would think you can get the tiles up fairly easily.
