Does my DIY kitchen look ok?

I get so fed up seeing everyone’s beautiful houses on Facebook, having extensions and new kitchen put in etc. My DH isn’t any good at DIY at all and has no desire to be which is frustrating! And £10,000 or more for a new kitchen just isn’t justifiable at the moment.
So I got a paintbrush and painted my kitchen! We bought new worktops and laid some new laminate.
Does it look ok or does it scream DIY job?

It absolutely doesn’t I think you’ve done a really great job! Well done! Especially love the lights.

Othering · 05/10/2020 17:52

It looks so much better. The door style is very dated, so you can tell that it's a DIY paint job but it still looks more modern and fresh.

doodleygirl · 05/10/2020 17:54

You've done a fab job, it looks really lovely.

Coriandersucks · 05/10/2020 17:55

Looks great!

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 05/10/2020 18:02

That looks much better, really fresh and modern!

I am impressed! Looks really good, you should be proud of yourself.

MJMG2015 · 05/10/2020 18:58

It looks good!

Are you happy with the worktops & flooring?

If you are, would you mind saying what you bought? I'm doing up my kitchen and I'll probably be renting it out next year, so I want it to be nice for tenants but I don't want to spend a fortune so that if it gets wrecked I won't be too upset. I would like white worktops but can't find a white laminate that doesn't look like it's been sent from 1970! Other colours/wood finishes look ok, but white 🙇🏻‍♀️

GymSloth · 05/10/2020 19:02

Wow, amazing transformation!

Firewall · 05/10/2020 19:02

Ooh amazing! What paint and colour did you use? May have to do something similar with ours!

ncd36275 · 05/10/2020 19:03

That's fantastic, amazing job! I think the cupboards look nice. The style looked dated in wood but it looks nice in grey.

11stoneTess · 05/10/2020 19:05

Well done, it looks fab.

BuffaloMozzerella · 05/10/2020 19:06

It looks really great. What kind of paint did you use on the cupboards, and how much of a ball ache was it repainting them all? I'd love to redo ours as it's very dark and tired looking now but feel exhausted at the thought of sanding and repainting it all! We also need a new work surface. Did you cut the holes yourself?

AdelaideK · 05/10/2020 19:07

You should be proud as it looks lovely

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 05/10/2020 19:10

You've done a brilliant job! Looks awesome

Sidge · 05/10/2020 19:13

Looks much better.

You need to paint the chairs now too though... get rid of that brown wood!

MaizeBlouse · 05/10/2020 19:17

Looks great OP, much fresher and brighter.

What about the oven, that's new too right?

GameSetMatch · 05/10/2020 19:20

You posted this 3 months ago? Same picture and everything.

PickAChew · 05/10/2020 19:24

The doors might be dated but those doors last forever so are absolutely worth painting. It looks a lot fresher and if it means that you enjoy spending time in your kitchen more, then it's time and money well spent.

Thank you so much everyone!
I just wish we had the money to redo it with a brand new kitchen. The whole house is full of brown wood.. door frames, skirting boards, the fire surround, bannisters, the lot! Whoever built this house really loved brown wood!!
The paint was B&Q multisurface paint in the shade ‘Delaware’ it was easy to paint just time consuming (which I had in lockdown so it was fine!) as I have so many bloody cupboards! I didn’t prep it but I did end up varnishing over it as it was starting to chip. The worktops are from B&Q also; they were called ‘white star’ I think! The only issue with them is I do find they show smear marks easily, so say if I wipe over them with a cloth or antibacterial wipe I do need to buff them with a towel to get rid of the smear marks. They also seem to have scratches on them in the light, but I think it’s one of the cases of I only notice it cos I know it’s there if you know what I mean!
The oven is new as the one that came with the house was so loud it sounded like we were on a runway when it was on haha! We got a new cooker hood too.
@BuffaloMozzerella which holes?
I did post this a few months ago when I was half
way through.. you have a good memory! I only have the one before photo but obviously the after photo is different to last time I posted. x
