Grey or cream carpet

We are currently decorating our spare room. This will be our babies room, and we were going to paint the walls white (it's not a large room, so I was hoping it would make it look bigger), and have a pale pink blind and rug.

We are unsure whether to go for a grey or cream carpet? We will hopefully be putting the house up for the market once I am off maternity, so I am wanting to go for an appealing option!

Many thanks for any opinions!

Grey carpet is horrible IMO. Cream is a far better neutral.

floppybit · 26/07/2020 21:23

Neither! A taupe/greige carpet looks good whatever colour the walls are.

Cream. Grey makes everything look cold.

floppybit · 26/07/2020 21:24

Mind you, most people seem to like grey if you're selling

I would not get cream anywhere with kids whatever age. I have a very pale silver grey in my bedrooms.

Used to have cream but recently updated ours to grey and much prefer it
The cream showed dirt quicker

Saying that, for the first 5 years of dc's life we had laminate with a rug - just in case of sick and poo!

If you get the right grey it will look lovely.
Cream shows the dirt and is not practical.

It really doesn’t matter! If it’s a small room no one will be put off by a neutral grey carpet (if they prefer cream) or vice versa. From bitter experience, a “mottled” cream carpet- something not uniformly pale but with flecks of other tonal colours hides milky spit up/vomit stains better!

We went with this range in the end. Belvedere Ash - blue grey that looks great with bright white walls but we have oak interior doors and other bits and pieces so it’s not cold overall. We have it with whites and blues so not a grey on grey look.

With your colours (pink & grey) I’d probably tend towards one of the other warmer/pinkier tones.

Definitely grey. I have it up my stairs and all of the bedrooms and love it. Doesn't look cold at all. I've noticed people on here seem to hate grey, but IRL it's very popular and 'in'. I've had cream carpets in previous houses that I rented and hated it. Felt it looked dated and showed up everything.

southernq1 · 26/07/2020 22:01

Also pale pink looks lovely with grey. I've added a bit pale pink in one of the spare rooms and loved it that much I've added a bit of pink into the bedroom aswell.

I had cream carpets, well more white and replaced with dark grey, love them! Hoovering is a thing of the past 👍

DianaT1969 · 26/07/2020 22:57

Mink grey looks good.

onlinelinda · 27/07/2020 08:27

I so don't like grey, myself, and I think the craze is over.

doingitforthefrill · 27/07/2020 09:41

Grey! We have dark grey in DS room and a silvery grey in DD, neither look cold at all! They were originally cream and taupe and the new grey carpets looks so much better and far more forgiving!

thisstooshallpass · 27/07/2020 13:03

Cream. Grey isn't neutral.

thisstooshallpass · 27/07/2020 13:04

I pressed send too quickly.

I was also going to add that if I bought a house with grey carpets I'd replace them.

sobersides · 30/07/2020 00:34

I'm not keen on grey or cream. How about a sort of stone/mushroom colour? It tends to have a bit of warmth to it.

TeddyIsaHe · 30/07/2020 00:37

Grey is awful, it’s so overdone - every new build has grey everywhere now.

A good taupe or mushroom colour would look better, with a big, bright rug to lift it.

TildaTurnip · 30/07/2020 00:40

We have a greyish carpet in DS room and regret it. Grey is just so boring, flat and cold. And it seems to be everywhere. I wish we’d gone for something neutral.

madcatladyforever · 30/07/2020 06:41

I always have neutral beige carpets throughout. They are classic, everyone likes them and they go with anything. You can add whatever colour you like.

Strugglingtodomybest · 30/07/2020 06:44

I had cream carpets when the kids were little, it was a big mistake as they show up every single mark.

huuunderickssss · 30/07/2020 07:02

Get taupe : almond colour . Much more adaptable . Grey carpet looks very grey en mass and cream will get very dirty / slash look dated .

Bluntness100 · 30/07/2020 07:14

Cream it’s more versatile, and I’ve no idea why you’d want to hide the dirt in a child’s room, for me you want to see it and have it cleaned. Confused

BakewellGin1 · 30/07/2020 07:31

Grey but have a good look around... We managed to get a lovely warm looking grey rather then it looking bland and flat, for DS bedroom and if I'm honest had we had the money I'd of put it everywhere.

Plus grey will look lovely with white and pink... I wouldn't personally have white with cream carpet but that's just my opinion
