So here’s my next extension which is to be a kitchen diner. It’s North facing but gets good light.
My hub and I are arguing about a really trivial paint quandary but it’s really bugging me so I’m begging you all for a bit of advice to settle this!
I am painting the whole room in Dulux Timeless which is a warm creamy White which always looks warm, now here’s the sticking point.......
I think the ceiling and coving (still to be fitted) should be all the same colour as the walls ie Timeless whereas OH reckons the coving and ceiling can only be pure Brilliant White.
Help us please 😂

All one colour, or ceiling antique white.

He is being totally unreasonable. Grin

Treasure440 · 19/07/2020 00:23

Totally unreasonable 😂😂 I think so too! Thanks for your vote xx

I'm with your DH. In a north facing room you'll get better light with a pure brilliant white ceiling.

Coving and ceiling need to be the same colour, and both should be white.

SwedishEdith · 19/07/2020 00:30

Agree with your husband. Coving, at least, should be PBW.

HowManyNameChangesNow · 19/07/2020 00:31

DH is correct. Walls warm, but ceiling white.

Shmithecat2 · 19/07/2020 00:34

I'm with your DH too. Whatever colour the want on the walls, but ceiling and coving should be white.

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2020 00:37

Back in the 90s there was a trend for using a much paler shade of the wall colour on the ceiling so it toned in, but I think that would look very dated now.

notangelinajolie · 19/07/2020 00:39

Your DH is right. Ceiling and coving should be white.

AnneOfQueenSables · 19/07/2020 00:39

I'm with your DH.

EllaM777 · 19/07/2020 00:39

I’m with your DH, I would want the ceiling and coving in white. Sorry

ShyTown · 19/07/2020 00:40

Ceiling and coving should be pure white. To do otherwise would look dated.

Africa2go · 19/07/2020 00:40

Sorry, your DH is right.

TimeWastingButFun · 19/07/2020 00:41

White ceiling and coving. Sorry!

Maverick66 · 19/07/2020 00:43

Do is right

Myshinynewname · 19/07/2020 00:44

DH is right. Sorry!

planningaheadtoday · 19/07/2020 00:48

DH is right.

feliciabirthgiver · 19/07/2020 00:50

Yep so sorry but it needs to be white

Neveranynamesleft · 19/07/2020 00:53

Sorry but you are outnumbered on this one, husband is right

ArriettyJones · 19/07/2020 00:57

I think the ceiling and coving (still to be fitted) should be all the same colour as the walls ie Timeless whereas OH reckons the coving and ceiling can only be pure Brilliant White.

You’re both wrong Smile

Ceiling and coving should be white, but ceiling should be a softer white than PBW. (Look at F&B “pointing”.)

Coving can either be the same as the ceiling or PBW.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 08:21

DH is right.

Bluesheep8 · 19/07/2020 08:24

DH is right. Ceiling, coving and skirting boards white.

TornadoOfSouls · 19/07/2020 08:26

You’re both wrong. Arrietty is correct.

Personally, I would not put brilliant white anywhere near a north-facing room.

MarthasGinYard · 19/07/2020 08:28

White

Bluntness100 · 19/07/2020 08:29

Husband is totally right, ceiling definitely needs to be in white

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 19/07/2020 08:35

I wouldn't bother with coving unless it was a period house with architectural mouldings. I feel the standard curved stuff is a bit 80s now.
