Does anyone have their bed in front of a window?

Just browsing Pinterest for bedroom decor ideas for our master bedroom which is long and quite narrow with a difficult chimney breast, making furniture placement combinations limited. I noticed quite a few pins with the bed in front of the window. I’d just never even considered doing it but the room would work much better that way round. Is it something people actually do or is it just a Pinterest thing?

No, for two reasons:

1. Spiders
2. Bigger spiders

Apparently Feng Shui says beds shouldn't be under windows 🤷‍♀️

I don't, but I've considered it as it's the only other way round we could possibly have our room!

I do and I really like it there. We tuck the curtains into the windowsill to keep it dark but on hot nights it's perfect for opening a window and getting a lovely breeze.

When my frail dad was visiting recently for respite we changed DS's whole room round so dad would be able to get in and out of bed with assistance. This meant putting the bed in front of the window and the headboard is 6" higher than the sill. It still looks just fine from outside (bungalow, so ground floor) and the curtains tuck neatly in behind. DS won't let us change it back.

We do. No Pinterest or anything like that. It was just the only way everything could fit in. I actually quite like it.

I like spiders and I don’t care about feng shui so that’s ok! I suspect the room has terrible feng shui as it is to be honest, it certainly doesn’t flow well as a room. Just suggested it to DH. He made an interested noise.

We do, it's the only way it fits. Like the pp said, it's great for breezes in the summer.

Although, I left the window open and it peed it down one night and my pillow was soaked!

The only downside is the cat jumping on OH when it comes in through the window, but that's not my problem.

Can walk around all three sides easily but these pics make it look like I can't but I can. There is about a 50 -60 cm gap round two sides and a 1.5metre gap the other side.

The feng shui thing is because windows used to be badly sealed and drafts so you were likely to catch a chill or colds more frequently if you slept near them - and have your sleep disturbed by light and outside noise. Nothing that can’t be countered with some double glazing and a black out blind I would go for it.

I used to have a king size bed shoved into a big bay window. I liked it, even though it didn’t make sense looking back - it was in my ‘flat share’ days!
It seems to be a really American thing, see it a lot on American property programs like Fixer Upper.

We do, it was an extension so we could have had it anywhere but really like it. Our headboard sits just below the window recess- its a king so i think thats about 150cm and window is probably 2m wide - so we have a blackout roman blind fitted into the window recess that pulls up/down on my side of the bed. No curtains etc to tuck behind etc. Really like it.

Do you mean with you headboard against the window, or you you mean with your feet under the window, 'looking out' ?

Mine is pushed up against the window. I bought a vanity table and this way fitted best. It’s only me that sleeps here so it’s never been a problem.

Yes we have the bed under the window, so heads are under the window and feet pointing into the room when sleeping.

Like Africa2go's example, but the top of the headboard more or less lines up with the bottom of the window.

It’s a real pet hate of mine seeing beds under windows. I do a lot of property browsing and whenever I see this my internal voice screams “you’ve done it wronnnng!”

I realise lots of people like it and some have no other option though. but it’s wrong (as are TVs on walls and sofas in front of windows.)

We do - we close the Venetian blinds the wrong way round so that breezes from the open window don’t land straight on us.

I do occasionally when I want a change. It works well as I always sleep with the window open so often it’s been cooler which I like

Yep, I mean with the headboard against the window. Might have a re-jig this weekend and see how it is.
