Struggling to find the perfect green paint

Would love people to share pics of their green rooms. I am trying to find a lovely soft sage green that’s not too dark. I have tried paints called ‘sage’ from nearly every brand and they’re all too dark or look a bit too rich so I need to branch out.

Everything seems to come out too dark in my house. I saw pics online of Dulux Tranquil Dawn and it looks like a gorgeous light green-grey, tested it on my wall and it’s practically dark blue! So ridiculous! Have this issue with nearly every paint I test, always looks ten shades darker in my house yet everyone else’s pictures look great.

Dulux apple white looks sage on our walls, might be worth a tester.

I've had dulux willow tree before and it was lovely- not sure if it'd be quite the right tone for you though

@TiresomePaperDreams funnily enough willow tree is now the one to beat! With the first coat I thought it was too pale and minty but now with a second coat it looks really good. It’s for a nursery so I don’t mind something a bit light. My house is just so dark! Probably why willow tree looks good to me, it’s brought down a few shades in my house lol.

They're always going to look dark when you're only trying small sample patches. You really need to have the whole wall covered first. And the surrounding colour will impact the tone of the sample too. I'd say find a tone you like and just go for it. Once it's all done it'll probably look great.

@HappyDinosaur I had some of that when we were choosing a colour for the hallway, I remember it barely showed up on the wall 😂 my walls are funny i think

@MaraScottie I do agree with you but honestly the colour tranquil dawn has come out on my wall is no where near what it’s meant to be 😂 I try to paint a bit right by the window where it’s lightest and another bit on the other side of the room where it’s dark, to check i like it in both lights.

Ah fair enough, it's so tricky with paint. Could you find something in the colour you like and ask for the colour to be made up for you? I think some places do that.

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 20:59

@HappyDinosaur possibly yes. Don’t Valspar do that? There’s a Valspar mixing counter in our local b&q. Expensive though!

I'm looking for a similar colour for our bedroom, and DD also looking for her bedroom.

I've tried Tranquil Dawn - too blue - and F&B Mizzle - too dark. Going to try F&B Cromarty next.

DD tried Valspar Stormy Day and Dulux Willow Tree, and likes the Stormy Day.

Knotaknitter · 09/07/2020 21:57

I've just finished the dining room in Crown Mellow Sage. I spent the first four days moaning about the colour not being anything like that on the tin, more apple than sage. One morning I looked at it and it was sage. I've been painting walls on and off for forty years and I can't remember ever having a paint mature to its true colour but a friend who is a self employed decorator says that it does happen.

We have dulux overtly olive and I love it, very calm.

leafeater · 09/07/2020 22:00

Try Bone by F&B. Sort of pale greeny grey, but will depend on your room and light.

We've got dulux crushed aloe and I love it.
It looks really good with white paintwork, shelving and blinds.

silverbubbles · 09/07/2020 22:05

Try Farrow and Ball - french grey

BeanbagMcTavish · 09/07/2020 22:07

Dulux Highland Mist?

Allsizes8to14 · 09/07/2020 22:07

Wilko English sage, we have a large kitchen diner and this was our sage of choice. I see they do a lighter one - whispering sage as well but haven’t had experience of that. We really rate wilko own brand paint, better than crown in our experience

TeddyBeans · 09/07/2020 22:11

I used dulux lagoon falls in DS' room. It might be too minty for what you're after though

Try Dulux Dusted Moss. There are 4 shades. We chose the 2nd darkest. Which is really a light pale moss green without being Green green. We had so many people asking if it was Farrow and Ball. I totally loved the colour but we went all modern during lockdown and redecorated in a dark navy colour.m so i cant upload a photo for you. The navy is Nice but I miss the dusted moss. We have fairly dark hardwood flooring and the pale green was so classy.

Waterlemon · 09/07/2020 22:13

I have Valspar stormy day with a F&b dark green feature wall. We used the left over paint in DC room, and both rooms look quite different. However we’ve had lots of complements about both rooms.

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 22:14

@EmmaStone willow tree is definitely growing on me, I’m going to see what it’s like in the morning like tomorrow

@Knotaknitter I’ve looked everywhere for a sample pot of crown mellow sage and can’t find one!

Another vote for Dulux willow tree - north facing quite dark living room, and it’s a lovely soft green colour, not dark at all

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 22:17

@leafeater just googled that, love the colour, very my style, but don’t feel it’s right for a nursery.
