Mid Blue-Grey for Narrow Edwardian Hallway. LOSING MY MIND

I have had several A4 swatches up for a week. Of these my favourite was Little Greene Juniper Ash, which is a deep blue/grey. I bought it even thought it was by far the strongest/darkest, but now I think it's too dark for the hallway which is narrow and has shit light. I have put the paint aside for another room but could still be persuaded to just 'go with the dark'. Maybe...

I have also got swatches up of:

LG: Bone China Blue - maybe - but bit wishy washy
LG: Celestial Blue - quite nice but too close to the F&B Dix blue which it runs into in the bathroom on the first landing.
Farrow and Ball: Parma Grey - too blue/wedgewoody
Farrow and Ball: Oval Room - too green
Craig and Rose : Steel Pole. Too Grey, too dead, sucks the light out.
Dulux: Denim Drift - don't like - again seems to be look a bit dead

I am attaching two images of the kind of colour I'm after (they are allegedly 'down pipe' - which I don't believe for a minute and 'Oval Room' but oval room on my wall is green).

The third picture isn't my hallway, but it might as well be. Very similar in size and with the same moulding on the ceiling.

I am off to buy more tester pots tomorrow and would love some recommendations please!

Any news OP? I need to order my paint soon and was hoping to see what you've decided. I'm really leaning towards Ice 5 or Sea Nor Sky and wanted to know what you thought of them.

SlightyJaded · 22/07/2020 21:29

Sorry for the hiatus. Have bought Sea Nor Sky and a couple of the other P&P colours but have been rushing around. Will try and get them up tomorrow. Even without seeing them up, I feel like it's going to be a toss up between Bone China Blue (Little Greene) and Sea Nor Sky (P&P)....

I bought so many testers looking for the right blue for our bedroom. The light in any room/space can have a huge impact on what a colour can look like on the walls. I wanted Denim Drift but it was really purple on the walls. I bought Dulux Heritage Maritime Teal in the end, mixed at a Dulux Decorator Centre before lockdown, and am starting painting today.

Good point. Get it mixed and see.

I'm halfway through painting the bedroom walls and have to say I am very impressed by the coverage of Dulux Trade Matt Emulsion. It goes on beautifully too. I'll wait until it's dry, but it looks as though a second coat everywhere might not be necessary. I'm painting over dark green.

Sea Nor Sky - too green
Going back in the morning for Porcelain V which I should have got in the first place

Is that you OP? Isn't Porcelain V a bit grey?

SlightlyJaded · 23/07/2020 22:00

Yes, me. NC fail from something else - no matter.

Porcelain V may well be grey. I have no idea any more.

I'm going to a good independent tomorrow who stock F&B/P&P/LG and all the other poncy paint (as well as Dulux/Crown etc). I'm going to take my bits of A4 and beg them to find me what I want.

I'll let you know how it goes....

If it was just a room, it wouldn't matter so much. But the hall/stairs/landing/more stairs is just SO MUCH WALL to get wrong.Confused

I ordered my paint today OP What did you choose in the end? I went for Benjamin Moore Blue Heather.

Musmerian · 05/07/2021 16:15

You are me OP! I’m normally really decisive but the hall is so difficult. I had F and Bs Slipper Satin but wanted more of a colour. I love Little Greene Celestial Blue but worried it might be too dark. Have spent over £50 on sample tins. F and B have no Modern Emulsion available at the moment and although I love Estate Emulsion I’m not sure it would work in the hall. Everything is either too blue/ green it too light dark. My sitting room is F and B Light bpBlue and I’m tempted to just go with that.

I have F&B Borrowed Light in my narrow Victorian hallway, looks grey in some lights and blue in others. Paired with Railings on woodwork and Little Greene Trumpet (acid yellow) on back of front door.

I'm actually about to change it for something warmer! Probably Slipper Satin above the dado and Dead Salmon below. Love the anaglypta idea though, that looks fabulous when done well.

Have a look at the Victory Colours paints, they don't to tester pots because they aren't very eco friendly but their hand painted samples are great. I found them very true to colour. I've used Royal Sapphire, it might be a little dark for you but 126mph is also lovely.

Musmerian · 06/07/2021 20:37

I finally went for the Little Greene Celestial Blue. Got the first coat up today on the ground floor of the hallway and I love it. Typical - it was the first sample I bought so the other 10 were a total waste.
