I am hopeless at decorating - would anyone have advice on how to revamp this boring downstairs loo? Ideally with links Thanks

I read somewhere, probably here, that you will never make a tiny space look bigger with light colours. I painted the wall a deep blue, and added a sparkly light fitting and it looks fab.

MakeTeaNotWar · 13/06/2020 09:22

@PecorinoPear do you have a photo you could post pls?

I'd go for wallpaper on the two side walls! There are some lovely floral ones and then you could go for a complimentary bright but light paint for the other two walls and matching accessories!

Something like this

If you wanted something a bit quirky we wallpapered the wall next to the loo with an old Calvin and Hobbs cartoon book which I really liked as it gave you something to read! We’ve also got a wall we papered with maps. also got a

Agree with going for a strong colour. And definitely get rid of the tall shelving in the corner as it doesn’t fit and breaks up the line of the window

Downstairs loos present the best decorating opportunities! I’d go with some bright or deep coloured patterned wallpaper, you can get amazing wallpapers from Cole and son and divine savages. Not much point papering the window wall as so much less space but you could use a matching paint colour. For a cheaper option for flooring, you can get tile paint and/or stencils if you want to change the colour or have a patterned tile floor.

Panelling or tongue and groove is very popular now (it's timeless too so won't date) and goes well with patterned floor tiles.

@LaureBerthaud that wallpaper is amazing - do you know where it's from?

Done mine during lockdown. Still need a new mirror and have some more pictures to put up but very pleased with it!

No natural light in there at all so just went for dark paint!

I like to think my house is generally tasteful, but my downstairs toilet is my designated fun room. No rules apply. It's tacky, but I love it.

Good research, Bernadette!

ManishaK · 15/06/2020 16:45

hey!

I agree I think sparkly lights or a really nice vase with bright flowers in!
That will make it look a bit bigger and brighter.

I got these crystal vases - and they look really nice in my bathroom
Hope that helps

I have a tiny dark downstairs toilet, gave up trying to make it lighter tiled the bottom half & used funky fish wallpaper on the top half, I’m pleased with how it looks now.

I love this @dontcallmelen and I've ordered a sample of that carp wallpaper @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz! I think tile the wall half way with fun wallpaper is a great way to do it. I've ordered lots of samples and promise to post before and after pix!

Thoughts on this zebra 🦓 wallpaper? With a white metro tile up to the window sill?

Thank you! The posted picture of the carp downstairs loo has been one I've seen before and wanted to use as inspiration when we get round to doing ours. Bookmarking the wallpaper for the future....

I have this wallpaper on the top half of my little loo, and dark grey the bottom half, i put a thin border of wood around the edge to split the room. so i could wall paper the top.

Sarah5674 · 25/06/2020 06:17

That looks just perfect. I always thought that light colors on wall makes the space look bigger and brighter but, this is really a very innovative and interesting thought.
