Help finishing off my new lounge please - pic included

Well the lockdown has been useful in the respect that DP has now revamped our lounge at last :)

Can anyone please help me choose some curtains, I don't want to block the light out and if the poles weren't up (it's a lounge diner) I would have gone without curtains. I am struggling to choose a colour and style.

We also need a wall clock to hang on the left in an alcove, no more than 50cm and also some pictures or wall art to go behind the sofa.
I would be very grateful for any help at all please!

I would either go without, or long sheer white/neutral curtain or voil, in a matte linen finish rather than shiny.

Looks lovely by the way!

Cantdecidewhich · 09/04/2020 07:33

Thanks for everyone’s help, I have ordered some voiles to try and if they don’t work I will try some of the other suggestions.
I am seriously considering a rug too and the picture shelf so now just got to find a clock.

Your sofa is really pretty. I agree with PP that there is a lot of oak going on. I'd probably do away with the coffee table (would also make it seem more spacious) but I know they're practical. Either way I'd have a rug in a light colour to go with the sofa, which would make the room more cozy and break up the oak. I'd definitely have light curtains too which would also soften the room (just blinds is very kitchen/office to me). Good luck

Cantdecidewhich · 09/04/2020 10:01

Thanks @Shmabel I have been thinking of getting rid of the coffee table but we do use it a lot so I would need an alternative.
How big do you think the rug should be?

I actually love all the oak! I think people are so used to grey and white these days, this is actually a classic look.

goldpartyhat · 09/04/2020 11:36

Sheer floaty white or cream curtains that don't need closing will keep the room light. A montage of family photos in varying sizes and shapes on the right hand wall

Cantdecidewhich · 09/04/2020 12:27

I have got some white voile curtains coming today so fingers crossed :)

Keep the coffee table, but definitely get a big rug.

Cantdecidewhich · 09/04/2020 15:23

The voiles look beautiful! Now off to search for a rug. Thanks all for your help

Ooh can we see please?

Shmabel · 09/04/2020 16:04

I'd go for a big rug, but I don't think its size is that important as long as it's quite a bit bigger than the coffee table. Just to be clear, I really like wood, but when it's all a similar colour I think it's a good idea to break it up which a rug will do nicely Smile
Glad you got some voiles you like.

Wolfgirrl · 09/04/2020 16:15

I would go for white, long, floaty curtains.

If I'm being honest I would do away with the coffee table, replace it with a rug and instead buy a small nest of tables. Will make room feel a lot bigger.

I would also put a large silver mirror behind the main sofa and a bigger bunch of (tasteful and realistic) fake flowers on the windowsill. Maybe blush or yellow coloured to add warmth.

Lovely sofas btw Smile

Cantdecidewhich · 09/04/2020 16:26

@AlmostThereKeepMoving here you go, not sure whether to leave them down or swag them a little with tie backs.
@Shmabel yes definitely considering a rug.
@Wolfgirrl, thanks. Any idea where to get good fake flowers?

I'm not sure there was a shop selling gorgeous fake flowers beginning with 'o' but I cant remember the name now! Have a look online and see what there is - I would go for a specialist website rather than a chain store etc. They might be a bit pricey but you'll never have to change them. Something with lots of greenery looks fresh and modern.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2020 19:54

The curtains look lovely.

Not a fan of fake flowers, but agree with a PP that some big bunches of daffodils would look lovely right now.

@mochojoes that's the one Grin

mrwalkensir · 09/04/2020 23:17

curtains are essential extra insulation in winter/ Would suggest extending pole 6 inches to the right and you could have the bulk of the light denim long curtain hanging there. If possible financially move the radiator to vertical hanging one on the right wall.?

mochojoes · 09/04/2020 23:33

@Wolfgirrl 👍🏼

trickyex · 09/04/2020 23:34

I think curtains are essential but the voiles look a bit thin and too bright.
I would think about having much fuller and lined curtains, in sheer linen or silk in a cream/linen colour to add a bit of warmth.
I agree about a rug, get one where all the front legs of sofa/chair rest on the rug. I like the idea of sisal or the Weavergreen rugs looked very nice.
Could you have a large mirror above the fireplace?
Sofa/chair both lovely.

I'd also get rid of coffee table. We don't miss ours with some small side tables.

MikeUniformMike · 20/05/2020 18:59

Take the pole down.
