Am decorating my bedroom and it's currently white. I want to add some colour and am looking for light coloured paint. I keep veering towards beige! and I don't want beige. It is named all sorts of different things like Hessian but it looks beige to me.

Paintwork is bright white as is ceiling. I don't want grey or anything yellowish/mauve.

Am looking for brown tones, natural, neutral, linen, sisal...

Any ideas?

Maybe Dulux Natural Hessian is on the browner side of neutral? Unless you go for a darker shade of brown, I expect a lot of the lighter neutrals will have elements of beigeness at various stages of the day/evening. Try out testers next to your ceiling of paintwork to get a true idea of how they'll look. You could accesorize with brown soft furnishings to really pull out the brown tones. Or if you wanted to go for a darker wall colour, spiced honey can look good against white and pops of colour: www.thecolourfile.com/2018/11/16/my-spiced-honey-experiment/

Have a look at b and q fairbanks, seems to go with most other colours, I would say perhaps a putty colour. I've been quite impressed with their paint and have some nice neutrals.

@Stefoscope Thank you so much. Brown Honey is lovely but a little darker than I'm looking for. I think I want more taupe, but I have to be careful with taupe as it sometimes looks mauve or has mauve undertones. Yes, I think it's going to be a little dreaded beige...

Creamy, browny, mushroomy, earthy is what I'm looking for.

@WaxOnFeckOff Great user name.

I will check those out, thank you, they sound great.

I'm currently liking a paint colour called Soft Truffle by Dulux.

I'm thinking light wood floors, white paintwork, Soft Truffle on walls, brass accessories, linen curtains and headboard.

I have Dulux Soft Truffle by accident. I picked up the wrong colour as I wanted a yellowish gold. However I think it’s exactly what you’re looking for. It’s not dark and definitely doesn’t have purplish or grey tones. It’s a very warm taupe brown. I have stained wooden floors and it does nicely with them and the white woodwork.

12345kbm · 11/03/2020 11:20

@VanillaSpiceCandle I love the fact that you just painted in it anyway Grin.

All the reviews for it are very positive, apparently it's lovely.

Ooh, stained floorboards? I was thinking light oak but what do you have?

Thank you btw, it's good to hear other people's opinions on it.

Egyptian cotton is gorgeous but maybe too grey for you? I think it’s very warm and sandy but my boss had it in her lounge and it looks Greige there

12345kbm · 11/03/2020 21:54

Oh man! Not 'greige'!! I was thinking of that for my sitting room! I thought it looked a bit 'warm white' if there was such a thing.

I'm actually looking at blue now...I was thinking Coastal Grey by Dulux.

How about Dulux polished pebble?

12345kbm · 15/03/2020 22:09

@Southmouth thanks but that's a little beige for me.

I'm really lost trying to choose paint now and can't seem to find anything I like at all.

Bear in mind that once the colour is covering big surfaces it looks much darker than in the tiny sample in colour charts.

Get a colour sampler. Elephant’s Breath from F&B is a nice light brown.

12345kbm · 15/03/2020 22:21

@TheMotherofAllDilemmas Thanks. It's because I can't settle on a scheme.

I want a Nordic vibe, which are kind of pastely colours: pinks, whites, blues, greys, grey-green, grey-blue...

I don't think Soft Truffle is the right colour for that. Then I started looking at blues, but the blues seem a bit too light or too dark.

I really like the look of the bedroom pictured.

What about something like B&Q clontarf?

12345kbm · 15/03/2020 22:46

@WaxOnFeckOff Thank you. I took a look and that does look similar. I'll add it to the list. You've been really helpful, thanks. I've spent hours looking at bloody paint charts!

me too :) I have a sample of that one as I'm thinking about it for DS2s room. I'm thinking Skandi-ish too.

Another option might be to go for the Navy/White them with a mustard wall/touches.

12345kbm · 15/03/2020 22:56

I'm thinking of a mustard headboard! It would really pop against a dark blue. So then I thought dark blue on the wall with the bed and then a tad lighter for the rest of the walls as otherwise the room might be a bit dark. I don't want a really dark bedroom, might find it a bit depressing.

I did this but was wishing I'd gone darker on that wall.

That's a nice colour. What colour is that? Yes, I think with a feature wall, you can afford to go a lot bolder. It's lovely though as is the sofa.

Have you looked at Hare by Crown? It's a lovely taupe. Goes with so many other colours too.

12345kbm · 15/03/2020 23:14

@PutColinInTheCorner That is really lovely! Thank you. I think I'm veering away from that kind of colour but it might do for my sitting room which I'm doing next - heaven help me.

Thank you. That's Cincinnati - a grey blue and that's fairbanks on the other walls.

Grin Good luck with that. Hare goes well with duck egg and eau de nil shades, also perfectly with Crown's Antique Cream.
