Jungle themed loo?

EmmaStone · 21/01/2020 09:12

Am thinking of wallpapering the top half of my downstairs loo with a tropical plant based wallpaper (the bottom half is tongue-and-grooved in a mushroom-dark beige colour). I've got samples all over the room - various tropical prints, but also some more Gatsby-esque geometrical designs in darker colours. I do have form for bold wallpaper in small rooms, and it's worked so far, but I'm worried the jungle theme might be a bit current and will date very quickly.

Has anyone else done this? Would love to see the paper you chose!

Following for ideas! Grin

sugarbum · 21/01/2020 09:20

Not yet. but thats my plan. I've got my eye on this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tropical-Rainforest-Wallpaper-Botanical-Floral-Birds-Jungle-Teal-Green-Rasch-/392429195383
I don't care about current. I'm just not sure if I should do the whole thing or just the back wall. Its only a small space, what with being the downstairs loo.

GatoFofo · 21/01/2020 09:26

Go for it! If you’re only decorating the top half of the walls of a small room, you will need max 2 rolls. If the wallpaper feels a bit dated in a couple of years, you can easily and relatively cheaply redecorate with new wallpaper.
I’m planning my downstairs loo update too, and plan to have some fun with the paper and a new bold pendant light. I see it as the one tiny room I can afford to change regularly Smile

Have a look at cole and sons wallpapers. Some out there prints. Love their palm prints. Can be expensive but good if the space is small.

GatoFofo · 21/01/2020 09:28

sugarbum I always do the whole room, it looks more current and is more of a statement, which looks great in a small room!

EmmaStone · 21/01/2020 09:28

Ooh that's beautiful Sugarbum. I'd go for the whole space, it will feel really cos and decadent. I think you can get away with a lot in a loo.

This is the lead contender at the moment in our house:

Love some of the Cole & Sons ones, in fact had one of the geometric ones as a possibility. I love wallpaper, but don't generally like (larger) rooms completely papered, but are feature walls a bit cringe now (I had a few in my last house...)? Unfortunately, my DH finds the idea of wallpaper terrifying (until it's up and then he concedes it works Hmm).

I love that Emmastone. Its very similar to what I've chosen for my living room (which is why I want something a bit more out there for the bathroom) [[https://www.diy.com/departments/graham-brown-julien-macdonald-honolulu-palm-green-foliage-glitter-effect-embossed-wallpaper/1278956_BQ.prd ]]

Although yours is busier than this one

mge · 21/01/2020 09:38

I'm not sure about feature walls either, however as far as the living room goes, its feature wall or nothing, because I really feel it would be too full on otherwise. The loo though is a different matter. Its pretty teeny but you don't have to sit in there for long LOL

sugarbum · 21/01/2020 09:41

oh now I want to do the upstairs bathroom too :)

mge · 21/01/2020 09:44

Me too. And agree I smallish loo/bathroom paper the whole thing.

Cara Delevingne has a fantastic jungle loo in her house <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DjAth0IKzfTM&ved=2ahUKEwiP06P1vZTnAhULCsAKHZfOBdgQwqsBMAB6BAgFEAQ&usg=AOvVaw3_J6_b6MYh-9tTLxld8HKh" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DjAth0IKzfTM&ved=2ahUKEwiP06P1vZTnAhULCsAKHZfOBdgQwqsBMAB6BAgFEAQ&usg=AOvVaw3_J6_b6MYh-9tTLxld8HKh

Last one I promise. Think this is lovely as it’s on a metallic background. Osborne & Little.

Cara Delevigne's house is very cool, tropical inside and out!

Love your living room paper sugarbum.

And the Cole & Sons Fern is gorgeous, looks so decadent.

I used to have a paper with an old map that covered roads from London out to Essex, up to Nottingham, and west to Bath, loved sitting and staring at it. Was an Andrew Martin one, not sure if he still does it.

Do you paper yourself or get someone in? DH managed to do 1 feature wall in last house, but it was quite a cheap paper, and the spare room, so it didn't really "matter". We had someone in to do the other rooms. Just deciding for now, there's a part of me that fancies having a go myself, but worried about messing up, especially if I decide to go for something more pricey.

I'm now down a rabbit hole of more wallpapers, they're so interesting!!

I’ve always used a decorator. My parents used to be brilliant and once decorated a house in three or four days. I’m too worried about pattern matching and some of the expensive paper is heavy and needs certain paste. I’m sure it can’t be that tricky. I’m just cowardly!

EmmaStone · 21/01/2020 13:20

I'm cowardly too mge - I'm worried about mucking it up, and then being stuck with it!

I love the Cole & Sons fern paper posted earlier. I’ll definitely consider that when I redecorate my downstairs loo.

My loo is pretty big (very long) so I went for one wall in a Cole & Sons print. It’s nearly 10 years since this was wallpapered and I played it a bit too safe, if you can’t go a bit wild in your downstairs loo then where can you!

Do it.

Wildernesstips · 21/01/2020 20:50

I want a jungle loo too, and am tempted by the Cole and Son Leopard Walk, but I love the Julian Macdonald you linked to up thread.

Wildernesstips · 21/01/2020 20:54

I’ve already bought the mirror www.rockettstgeorge.co.uk/gold-snake-wall-mirror.html
