Where do you put your clothes overnight?

Where do you put your clothes overnight?

I'm thinking of getting a bench or something so my clothes don't just end up on the floor, but where would I buy such a thing, and what is it called?

Thanks.

Yeah... the floor

Unpoquitititoloco · 15/08/2019 11:03

Do you have room for an armchair in the corner or similar?

Apolloanddaphne · 15/08/2019 11:04

I put mine on the floor. I have a dressing table and stool but never use them. In the morning i either put them in the washing basket, put them back in the wardrobe or put them on so nothing remains on the floor.

Crimebustersofthesea · 15/08/2019 11:05

In the wardrobe or the washing basket.

SaintEyning · 15/08/2019 11:05

I have a full size door to a cupboard in my bedroom - got some over door hooks and they go on there. You might be able to get some thinner ones for a wardrobe door if you don’t have a spare door.

Dhalandchips · 15/08/2019 11:05

Floor by the bed... Ready to fall into in the morning! I'm a bit manky

Sooverthemill · 15/08/2019 11:06

I put clothes I've worn once or twice ( and my jeans that get washed occasionally) on a box in my room. The box has been in the same place since we moved in nearly 3 years ago and one day I will get round to sorting it out. I sometimes google bedroom chair in the hope of finding one I like and then I will put clothes on that. I do always hang up shirts and dresses outside wardrobes overnight. In my head that's to freshen them up before putting back in wardrobe. If it's in the floor it has to be washed as we have dogs and cats

I got a freestanding wooden towel rail from a flea market for £1 - it’s fantastic for exactly this thing. Might be a modern equivalent that would do the job?

Skisunsnow · 15/08/2019 11:29

Either away in the drawer or wardrobe, or in the washing basket.

Rupster · 15/08/2019 14:01

Thanks for your replies.

I have a fair amount of space for something.

After a bit of googling, the item I'm thinking of is a "bedroom bench".

Hey @Rupster I don’t know if ‘bedroom bench’ worked for you but try googling “clothes valet’ or “valet stand”.

ineedanotherholiday · 19/08/2019 17:32

We've got a chair in the corner of the bedroom that just gets piled on and then every few days or so I'll put it away/ washing basket whatever. I'd like to say we fold it up and put it away or in the basket but never happens!

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 19/08/2019 17:36

What about an ottoman? I have one at the end of my bed and store bedding, blankets etc in it then often end up chucking clothes on top of it too (or on the clothes mountain that's on top of some storage boxes! 😬) Also, obviously, handy as a seat to put socks on etc, or whatever.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 19/08/2019 17:39

Do people not have wardrobes anymore? IF clean, in the 'robe if dirty in the wash basket

Drabarni · 19/08/2019 17:40

I have an ottoman, if/ when it gets too full, they fall on the floor.

Littlechocola · 19/08/2019 17:43

I hang them on a hook on the back of the door or put in the wash basket.

Hotterthanahotthing · 19/08/2019 17:45

If needs washing in the basket if not on the chair next to the basket.
Once a week when washing is sorted chair is too.

MmmBlowholes · 19/08/2019 17:49

Do you mean clothes that you're going to re-wear?

ELM8 · 19/08/2019 17:52

Back in the wardrobe if clean, in the washing basket if not.. you learn something new every day, I did not know a bedroom bench was a thing!!!

Knittedfairies · 19/08/2019 17:54

There was a thread on MN a while ago about 'the chair' in the bedroom. I have a chair.

earlgreymarl · 19/08/2019 17:56

For casual stuff / loungewear that I might re-wear again I put it in a basket in bottom of wardrobe. This basket , for things neither freshly washed clean nor dirty ( the clirty basket if you will) is the substitute for what would inevitably otherwise gather on floor / furniture etc , but keeps things hidden away .

When I do the main laundry , I go through this and either put away property or wash.

Tada!

earlgreymarl · 19/08/2019 17:57

*properly

JoJoSM2 · 19/08/2019 18:12

I'd second the ottoman idea as it's more useful than a bench.

Frlrlrubert · 19/08/2019 18:24

DH has a chair. I use the hooks on the back of the bathroom door. We also have hooks that hang over the bedroom door but the currently have nothing on them.
