Where do you put your clothes overnight?

Where do you put your clothes overnight?

I'm thinking of getting a bench or something so my clothes don't just end up on the floor, but where would I buy such a thing, and what is it called?

Thanks.

Straight into the washing basket. Washing then put on first thing in the morning.

I don't understand why it needs to go somewhere in between.

I used to have a hat stand similar to this one but in wood and that was v useful to hang up clothes
Now have hooks inside wardrobes

Casual clothes, laid over chest of drawers, DH uses the chair for his, best clothes are hung on hanger over box room door

Do you mean a chaise longue? Yes have a chair of doom - not convinced it's a good idea. Perhaps not having it would force me to put away or in the washing basket

dudsville · 19/08/2019 20:13

We have an over the door set of hooks. His for day clothes, horse jumpers, bathrobes, there's about 8 hooks. Plenty for two people!

Thanks for all the (many) replies!

I would use a bench to put my jeans and a jumper on, and my other half the same.

A clothes valet would not work so well for me as hanging my jeans would cause stuff to fall out of the pockets, and I like to fold jumpers.

I'm not a fan of hooks on back of doors as I think it makes the room look cluttered when there are things hanging on them.

But then again I guess the same could be said of having clothes on a bench Grin

A chair?

PinguDance · 20/08/2019 14:26

I think a stand-alone rail is a really good solution for clothes that can be reworn - I used to have space for one but now everything goes on top of my chest of drawers. Of course now they get crumpled etc so I miss my rail.

BigusBumus · 20/08/2019 14:36

I usually wear the same clothes a couple of days running. So the floor or radiator if being worn next day or washing basket otherwise.

Unless I'm pissed then they could be anywhere.

Any flat surface with clothing on instantly attracts DTwatCats.

On the back of the wardrobe door works here, but I think, depending on your decor, an antique hallstand (with or without chalk paint/sprayed white) might actually work well for you, as some had a shelf, a lower compartment for footwear and hooks for hats and scarves (or in your case, bra and hanging stuff up).

I currently use a chair, but we’re getting cats soon. I may need a rethink. Valet stand perhaps or wall hooks.

AwdBovril · 23/08/2019 08:53

Put jeans, jumper etc on the chair under my desk. Sewing machines on my desk, so can't put them there. Obviously I lay my corset over the back of the chair to air out overnight. As any lady should do.

AdalindMeisner · 23/08/2019 08:53

@earlgreymarl a 'clirty basket' at the bottom of the wardrobe, your idea is brilliant!

Currently mine go on my desk which then ends up cluttered and I can't work there or the floor.

I have one of these

www.jim-lawrence.co.uk/small-tallow-towel-rail/small-tallow-towel-rail-in-polished-9419po?returnurl=%2fsmall-tallow-towel-rail%2f

It’s sold as a towel rail but doesn’t look ‘bathroomy’. There is plenty of room for me & DH to hang clothes that aren’t dirty enough to wash but aren’t clean enough to put away (I don’t like worn clothes in the wardrobe or drawers). It looks less messy than a chair piled with clothes and it’s really well made too.

(I have the large version, which I don’t think they make anymore)

@AdalindMeisner it embraces the reality and in betweeness of the situation!
