Is this a crazy idea?

Just bought a house with 3 floors and redoing it - is it bananas to want a different wallpaper for each floor in the hallway? Eg one for the entrance hallway going up the stairs but when you get round the corner on the stairs, at the corner join, it’s a new one? Same thing on the top floor?

Yep bananas! I could just about envisage it with slightly different shades of paint but wallpaper - no!

The wallpapers I have in mind all have a cream base with quite plain patterns so I don’t think it’s a DRAMATIC change ...I really liked the idea but now I am quite worried about it in case everyone thinks it’s silly: but then if I don’t try it will I regret not trying it?

It’s a Victorian house with a large hallway so was going to do the classic black and white Victorian tiles and I thought white walls were a bit boring so wanted this...

Although I am not sure I am brave enough. But I don’t want it all the way up the house so I wanted this on the second floor, the “adult floor”

I don’t know if I should just do what I like and be brave because it’s my house or cave into what other people think! It’s my first house. I don’t know if this is all mental.

I’m also not sure if the wallpaper for downstairs hallway is too Art Deco for the tiles

I think it’s your house so do what you want. Stuff anyone else’s opinion.

I think If you like it go for it. The worst thing that could happen is you don’t like it and you can just strip it and get a big tub of white paint

Sorry I think this would look a mess.

Another option though: create “panelling” on the walls with beading and then fill in the panels on each floor with your chosen wallpaper. Like pictures in frames. Then a neutral paint colour around the frames, same colour all the way up. This way you can have the wallpapers without them having to join up at the edges, and also without there being too much of any of them.

(Personally I’d just go with paint but then I am allergic to pattern)

I'm not against mixing up wallpapers, it can work, we've done it here a little, but I've looked at your links & I m sorry it would look dreadful. I'd think you were broke & had no taste as even painted lining paper would look better that it would in that mix of papers

No. I would have the one wallpaper. Why separate the flow of the stairs? It could look like bedsit land by losing the flow.

If you're going to do it then go for mad colourful over the top papers. Look at House of Hackey wallpapers - that sort of thing

I'd stick to the Riviera one all the way up, or at least for the lower two floors. For such expensive paper, it would be a shame to get a bedsit vibe.

At the corner of the stairs - using the corner as the join.

Without sounding gauche, it’s a rather large house and I don’t think it will look like we are broke! Just because of the context and how the house is.

But I understand the view points. I think the riviera is a bit too strong for the whole way up - I will be disappointed to just paint it plain though!

I think it will look as though you've started decorating one floor but haven't got round to the other two. The first one looks a bit like floor tiles. That being said, it's your house & you should do what you fancy.

I think this would only work if you went completely all out with the wall paper William Morris style. The wall papers you’ve chosen are more suitable for feature walls tbh. Maybe you could do a feature wall in each paper on the stairs?

I really like the idea but agree with others above that the designs you have chosen won't flow. Variations on the black graphic design in the first picture would look amazing though.

Sorry, it'll look like you've just not finished (or started) decorating. Staircase should flow.
