Am I just being fussy? - curtains

CML1982 · 12/01/2019 20:21

I recently ordered some made to measure curtains, they arrived today and I am very happy with the colour, texture and pattern .... BUT when they are open they look like 2 different colour curtains because of how they have been made, the placement of the eyelet holes means one curtain has the light colour stripe pushed out and the other has the dark stripe pushed out, this means when they are open one curtain looks darker than the other. Is this normal and something I should live with or is this is a defect that I should be complaining about?

Can't seem to see the photo, can you send again?

cocomomo · 13/01/2019 09:07

This photo? The curtains look fine to me!

They look fine to me -

MustDust · 13/01/2019 09:10

You have posted a link to your photo stream there which may be outing.
Can you take a photo of them open?

chickydoo · 13/01/2019 09:10

The one on the left looks a bit darker to me

magpieC · 13/01/2019 09:10

I see what you mean. Have they been made so that the pattern continues across both curtains evenly? Can you just change the way one of them is threaded on the pole?

TwoGinScentedTears · 13/01/2019 09:13

They Just st need threading into the pole differently. If you look the rh curtainnstarts off differently and that's what's causing the unevenness. I think!

FritzyMousey · 13/01/2019 09:23

Have you definitely hung them both correctly? I can see the one on the left is, but I can’t see clearly if the one on the right is, the ends of the curtains should face the wall. If hung correctly then yes they are wrong, the pleats should match and you should complain. Who made them?

Doje · 13/01/2019 09:32

I see what you mean too. And yes the pleats at the end do face inwards so you can't thread the other way. If definitely ask them to fix it.

SophieLMumsnet · 13/01/2019 11:25

Hi OP,

We've deleted the link in your OP post, as it could be outing - but do get in touch with us if that's a problem at all.

youaremyrain · 13/01/2019 11:26

Its how you've threaded them on

youaremyrain · 13/01/2019 11:27

Although I see what you mean as if you threaded them so the one on the right had the lighter stripe forward it would have the ends sticking forwards instead of being at the back of the pole

TheEmmaDilemma · 13/01/2019 11:31

If she threads them differently the outer edge would show on one incorrectly.

I could live with it, but it would peev slightly...

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 13/01/2019 11:33

I think they probably need rehanging....lay them on the floor and see which edges match best and then make sure the poles go through the same way on each hole...ideally on the first outside edge hole the pole will go in from the front so the edge of the curtain goes toward the wall, not back into the room.

from the pic I would say that left edge on the left curtain should be the centre, it's clearly a stripe and that would look best over the outside right edge edge of the other curtain.

LongLadders · 13/01/2019 13:46

This is maybe resolved but it is to do with choice of cloth as this header can only be fitted as width of cloth allows ... in a narrow curtain of less than two widths there isn't much option other than cutting down leading edge and transfering to other side of drop ...as suggested by other it may be possible to trick eye by hanging one curtain with centre edge forward and other curtain centre edge back .... choose which by preffered colour when open .... interested to know outcome.

CML1982 · 13/01/2019 15:06

I can't post pictures yet as my account is so new, so I have added uploaded a different photo

I have threaded them correctly. I have sent an email to the manufacturers with some photos and will wait to see what they will do. They are lovely curtains it's just the way they have been cut that has meant the pattern is just in the wrong place.

Just to say, the photo above was when I put them both on one side of the pole so I could show the colour difference when they are open because the light grey stripe sits on the outside of one and the inside of the other. If anyone is able to post that photo here for me so others can see it without having to click the link that would be much appreciated.

They didn’t look too bad on the photo showing them stretched out, but it would still have annoyed me. The photo of them squished together, they look dreadful. They need to be remade (well one of them does).

TwoGinScentedTears · 13/01/2019 15:36

Oh wow, in the photo where you pushed them against each other it looks like a totally different colour fabric! I'd not be happy with that at all.

BollocksToBrexit · 13/01/2019 15:53

No you're not being fussy. The fabric has been badly cut. The first thing you learn in sewing class is to cut it to take into account patterns and how they'll look when they hang. I would not accept that from a made to measure product.

BollocksToBrexit · 13/01/2019 15:54

PS You've linked to all your WoW pictures too.

MustDust · 13/01/2019 15:56

No, I would reject those curtains as faulty, they should not be like that, hope you get it resolved OK.

Nacreous · 13/01/2019 15:56

I thought maybe it was just the light, but the two pushed together look totally different and I would also be very unhappy.

concretesieve · 13/01/2019 16:02

Completely agree with BollockstoBrexit

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 13/01/2019 16:05

as you look to have them threaded on the pole properly then it's down to the placement of the holes, that's pisspoor for made to measure, I would expect a refund/replacement
