Weird room with a door on every wall?! Help!!

Just that really!

We have book shelves with no books on just general crap. Im thinking books but there's isn't even really anywhere to put a chair 🤦🏻‍♀ It's a weird walk through room between two rooms and the hallway and a window on the other wall and I've no idea what to do with it, the house is due to go on market and I really want to 'dress ' it in some way to improve it?? Really stuck for ideas

Diagram? Photos?

WutheringFrights · 06/01/2019 22:20

Have you got any photos you can share of it?
Could you just put a mirror or a couple of prints?
Anything ‘sticking out’ might make it look smaller and less useable.

CottonTailRabbit · 06/01/2019 22:28

Can you treat it as an extension of the hallway? Kind of a foyer, as if it is meant to be mostly empty, just some pictures on the wall. Or walk-in coat/shoe cupboard: maybe like a mudroom.

CottonTailRabbit · 06/01/2019 22:28

Floorplan with dimensions would help.

queenqueenqueen · 06/01/2019 22:32

Sorry this is pretty crappy but sort of gives the idea of the door overload if you can make sense of it. Like idea of coat room and something I have considered but it's actually quite far from front door which might seem odd.

What rooms does it lead into?

ATowelAndAPotato · 06/01/2019 22:34

I’d do mirror above the radiator, prints either side of window. Some kind of bench/ottoman/trunk under the window? Does it get a lot of light? Could it be used as a “hobby room”

queenqueenqueen · 06/01/2019 22:34

Living room and dining room xxx

I was going to say exactly the same as ATowel

Tika77 · 06/01/2019 22:36

Door concealed as bookshelves? I’ve been dreaming of one for a long time.

queenqueenqueen · 06/01/2019 22:37

Either side of window is sort of wall to floor shelving, thinking filling them with books but then also not sure, but that's my best idea at moment, and no unfortunately not much light its to the side of house not front or back x

Hobby room is good idea but no real place for a desk, it's just a bloody glorified walkway and driving me mad.

BrieAndChilli · 06/01/2019 22:39

How big is it? Could you use it as a dining room and then make the dining room another lounge/playroom/study?

queenqueenqueen · 06/01/2019 22:39

@tika7 no more doors!!!!!

Console table under the window and dress it as a desk or craft area. Stool that tucks in under the console table.

Chair on an angle in front of one or both sets of shelves. So it looks like someone can sit in the chair chatting to you while you sew / draw / whatever.

RandomMess · 06/01/2019 22:40

Could you rip out the shelves and put in lovely built in coat or storage cupboards???

Do you have a cloak or utility room?

Can you do a floor plan of the ground floor?

queenqueenqueen · 06/01/2019 22:41

@brieandchili no not big enough for that plus our gorgeous kitchen diner is best part of house really 😕

And agree with big mirror above the radiator.

Hazardswan · 06/01/2019 22:43

Bench/trunk set up as seating under the window, if it's dark get those Ikea shelf lamps to make it look cosy? People like me love a storage area!

queenqueenqueen · 06/01/2019 22:43

@randommess think DH would have heart attack if I suggested that, he only built then 2 yrs ago!!!

Can you knock a wall down?

Batteriesallgone · 06/01/2019 22:45

Or, a cheaper alternative, take off the door that leads to the hallway.

We’ve done that with a weird bisected hallway bit of our house. Feels so much better now and less closed in. Were initially intending to knock down more wall to make a proper arch but we haven’t bothered, just removing the door was enough to make a difference.

lms2017 · 06/01/2019 22:45

Can you not fill the shelves with say a hangin rail or hooks take the shelves out for extra coats, dogs leads etc, then on other shelves some lovely wicker type boxes or is this walkway not near the door so to speak ?.

Xx

RandomMess · 06/01/2019 22:47

Where does the 3rd door lead to? Is it the hallway?

Take the door off to the hallway to make it lighter.

Tbh a few photos, ornaments and decorative items on the shelves so it's kind of display cabinets - borrow some trophies???
