My living room needs an overhaul as it is very dated. We have very high ceilings, large windows with original shutters, picture rails and a white marble fireplace.

I'm very nervous of getting it wrong. I don't want to go neutral (my default) but am wondering about a very pale blue, but then I'm wondering if it would feel too cold. It is an East facing room.

Any recommendations for paint colours or ideas please? I am stumped with a house of this age, as anything too modern looks completely out of place. It is a lovely period room, and I want to do it justice

I love hague blue and think it looks lovely in period houses but it's a completely different look to what op wants, borrowed light is lovely as is Parma grey but again that can be quite strong in some lights.

Borrowed Light is lovely and pale. Or it was in DS's last bedroom which was south facing. Can't imagine a much paler blue without it just appearing to be a "hint of blue" white paint. The only other pale blue F&B I can think of is Skylight?

I have something called ‘quench the gloom’

The paper and paint library

It’s a warm and very pretty blue.

I do love Hague blue as a colour, but not in this house. It just wouldn't suit it.

Borrowed light still the favourite, I have a tester pot but haven't managed to dig a brush out yet!

I'm wondering now about borrowed light between the picture rail and dado and white below the dado, but I'm not sure if that would look odd (by having a lighter colour below the dado). I will need to do white below the dado to cover the dark green that is there, so I'll see how I feel when I've done that.

@user1484830599 I have Greenwich time in my hall it’s a fairly bright white with, a slight blue tinge it’s by Mylands paint, which is fabulous paint gives really good coverage, they have a good selection of fairly muted colours, might be worth a look.
