Hi! I need ideas. My last was from cargo homeshop which no longer exists. J Lewis seem v expensive. Usual ones on retail parks I don't like the sofas. Looking for something classic but not granny-ish in neutral or heather. Thank you!

Debenhams online

RandomUsernameHere · 12/01/2018 16:43

Should add - they're nearly 4 years old and lasting well

AveEldon · 12/01/2018 16:45

Ikea
Previous one was from JL and barely lasted 8 years

SCS and I’m gutted by the quality and their customer service!

jigster01 · 14/01/2018 11:11

Furniture village ..got a few bits round the house from them and customer service was excellent

funnyfoursome · 14/01/2018 19:51

Wow thanks everyone! Never heard of Beales I like the idea of British made and well-made too!

Habitat for our main sofa
Made.com for cheap but stylish small 2 seater

ObiJuanKenobi · 14/01/2018 20:00

Dfs it was fine for a year and now it's so uncomfortable and kills both of our backs. It's slumpy and misshapen now Angry

HaHaHmm · 14/01/2018 20:31

If you are anywhere near Oxfordshire then I highly recommend a trip to Trade Secret.

www.bealesfurniture.co.uk/inspire-me/boutique-collection/dainty.html
This is beales online furniture. They also have stores dotted about
www.beales.co.uk/
Their furniture is made by cavendish upholstery who have their factory in Chorley lancs.
I am lucky enough to have one of their future stores near me and everything is well made with a great choice in fabrics and very comfy. They have some great prices in their sale too. The stores stock different ranges than online but most of it is very similar and made by the same factory.

Over many years...
3 from Sofa Workshop. All now over 10 years old, all still in great nick (survived 2 boys and 2 cats). Washable covers on 2, have had one re-covered to update it.
1 from Sofas and Stuff. Arrived missing a layer of padding on arms. They made me wait weeks while they sent an inspector, then made me wait another 8 weeks while they took it back and did it right. Sofa is now comfortable but customer service was shocking, no communication and take it or leave it attitude.

theredjellybean · 16/01/2018 13:20

Cantspell... I have just looked at beales...wow thanks they look gorgeous and loads half price.
Are they comfortable?

monkeywithacowface · 16/01/2018 13:23

SCS it's shit don't go there (not cheap either cost £1200)

My last sofa was from Cargo. I loved it and had it 10 years it was still in fab condition when we donated it to British Heart Foundation shop.

BertrandRussell · 16/01/2018 13:25

Our favourite was from the Cancer Research charity shop. £25!

PanannyPanoo · 16/01/2018 13:28

another recommendation for sofa sofa. we bought a 3 seater and matching sofa bed, and a 6 seat corner sofa from them 4 years ago. Brilliant service and still look like new.

queenoftheschoolrun · 16/01/2018 13:37

I'd recommend sofa sofa too. We bought our sofas there two years ago, fantastic customer service, and they still look like new. Great value for money too.

Twodogsandahooch · 16/01/2018 13:41

M&S 40% off. Large sofa cost £600

Cantspell2 · 16/01/2018 18:38

I think they are very comfy, decent sized seating areas, a choice in higher or lower backs and a good selection of different styles. I am quite short and I still found one that my legs don’t dangle from.

Pollaidh · 16/01/2018 18:39

Habitat

Which still exists online and possibly in some DIY stores.

Pollaidh · 16/01/2018 18:41

And the Habitat sofas are (1) 11 years old and still very comfortable. Linen has worn, especially where cat scratches it, but that's not Habitat's fault. Sofa no 2 from Habitat is 8 years old and looks as good as new.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 16/01/2018 18:49

I've wanted a velvet sofa for years. Vintage style, button-back, preferably in teal.

Went second hand furniture shopping with Ex-P last month when he moved house and let out an actual squeal when I saw this.

It cost me £10. Ten English pounds.

And it came with a footstool.

Not a very useful reply, sorry OP, but couldn't resist sharing my good luck 🤣.

TeeBee · 16/01/2018 18:54

Laura Ashley leather sofa. Gets better with age.

bouncydog · 21/01/2018 21:40

Sofa workshop many years ago! Just about to get them recovered as quality is fantastic. Just bought buoyant dexter sofas for conservatory- seem really comfortable and very reasonable.
