Soft pale grey

Sorry...another grey paint question!

I'm after a really soft barely there grey paint

Preferably quite warm as it's for a coldish bathroom

I've got white wall tiles & grey patterned floor tiles, so needs to be neutral

I'm willing to try other neutrals too but need some opinions before I spend another £30 on testers!!

Dulux Rock Salt
Dulux Ash White (maybe a little deeper grey than you are looking for but we have in our north facing bedroom and really like)

I've tried skimming stone, elephants breath, polished pebble, pebble shore, goose down and chic shadow so far. All too dark!

White mist & grey steel 4 have been recommended

On my grey binge I also tried samples of Cornforth white which was more purplely but maybe too strong, and Peignoir which was definitely warmer but almost a pinky grey, might not be neutral enough either. All the other F&B greys I tested were cooler than Ammonite or much, much darker.

I must try Egyptian Cotton as it keeps popping up on MN! Although it looks beigey cream to me on the sample card? I hate testing paint!!

The room does have a lot of natural daylight mostly all day and is a light room. But I think the bright white tiles & grey floor & very high ceiling make it feel quite stark. Hence why I'm trying to soften it

Dulux timeless classics- vintage chandelier. It's a very pale and slightly warm grey looks white until it's on the walls.

I have Egyptian cotton in my bathroom and in hall, stairs and landing. It never looks beigy in any light although I suppose it must have sone warm tones in it like an orange it something

I'd also say Little Greene French Grey - they have a 'pale' and 'mid' (I think!) version too.

We have Alabaster by Fired Earth on our hall stairs landing and its v much admired. the next door neighbours copied as they liked it so much.

Apologies - you've tried SS already. Have you tried Zoffany? Quarter Silver or Quarter Mushroom? It's pricey but it paints beautifully - you only need 2 coats.

I’ve got Egyptian cotton in my hall - it’s one of those funny colours that changes in different lights, but it’s definitely not grey, more a warm beigey colour. I have white mist in my living room and that is an off white with grey undertones, it’s very cold.
I did a bathroom a few years ago in Johnstones Silver feather, which was a soft pale grey.
B&q own brand bathroom paint is quite good and do a variety of shades

Dulux White Mist. I was after a barely there grey myself, bought loads of testers. This was exactly what I had in mind.

Dulux do a shade called dusted moss in colour depth of 1 to 5 I think. The palest one (sorry can't recall if it's no 1 or no 5) might appeal

F&B Strong White is a paler, softer version of ammonite. You might also like Dulux Trade Heritage in Chiltern White.

You say the room is cold- is it also dark eg North facing? If so I would steer well clear of pale grey as it will look forever dingy. Pale colours don't really lend light to dim rooms. You have to embrace the darkness and stay away from muted or muddy shades. So if you're doing grey, go dark amd strong. Sorry not what you asked! (But try it!)

We tried most of the colours you have mentioned, in our living room. Have previously had Egyptian Cotton in there and loved it but wanted a change. Have used Dulux Silver Quill and am happy with it. Warm and grey but a silvery blue tone to it and very fresh and light. Good luck, it’s so difficult getting it right Smile

Egyptian cotton was definitely grey in my house Grin it's a grey which changes in the light. I had it in my lounge and hallway and it looked totally different in the hallway to the lounge.

Have a look at perfectly taupe by Dulux. It's a warm grey in my opinion with almost a browny-purple tinge to it.

I have Perfectly Taupe too in my rather dark lounge and yes, it has a nice purple tinge in some lights. Quite warm. And always in stock.
